Yep, plenty went wrong in the season so it was forced on the club to make the tough call.

Swan considers future, two Dogs mull rival offers, Lion could leave

THE WESTERN Bulldogs are the frontrunners in a potentially blockbuster AFLW deal for Sydney's star ruck Ally Morphett, who is considering her future after a breakout year for the Swans.

It's understood Morphett has met with the Bulldogs and a number of other clubs, including Collingwood and Essendon, and is currently weighing up the prospect of accepting a lucrative five-year offer to move to the Whitten Oval.

Morphett has been in crunch talks with Sydney over the last fortnight after the club became aware of the Dogs' interest, though it's understood she still remains undecided on her future.

In a statement provided to AFL.com.au on Friday, the club said: "The Sydney Swans have a policy of not commenting on contracts and we are comfortable with where conversations are at."

Any trade for Morphett would likely need to involve the Bulldogs' No.1 pick, given her standing as one of the League's best young players, while it would also precede what is set to be a busy Trade Period for the club after its dismal 1-9 campaign.

The Dogs' former No.1 pick Gabby Newton has significant interest from Fremantle and is tossing up a move, while 2022 All-Australian defender Katie Lynch is also expected to explore rival offers.

But the Bulldogs ? who parted ways with coach Nathan Burke earlier this week ? will look to become active themselves to ensure a quick rebound next season and have identified Morphett as their primary target.

The 19-year-old was recently named in the AFLW's All-Australian squad for the first time, while she had also been among the lead contenders for the Rising Star award before injuring her wrist in a blow that ruled her out of its ongoing finals campaign.

Morphett ? who was averaging 17.9 disposals, 29.3 hitouts and 5.1 clearances per game before her injury ? has played just 23 games in the AFLW, including seven for the Giants and 16 for the Swans.
The Bulldogs are hoping to complement the potential arrival of Morphett with the signing of exciting Brisbane forward Zimmie Farquharson, who sat out the most recent AFLW season having been moved to the inactive list at the Lions.

We lose a lot of number 1 picks that have gone in to be real good.
Losing Newton would be another sign we just aren’t an attractive club to be at.

Been stalwarts this year in backline. Really like both player?s determination, hope we keep them both. In a team that doesn?t have many tall players that can mark well agree losing these two would be dreadful. Going to be tough if we continue to lose players. Sisyphus like, except we can?t even get near the top to start off, 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Didn't get into the Sydney Glitz Thursday to Sunday pinger parties you were throwing every other week?

Are we SURE Peter Jackson can't look at the AFLW program as well?

Losing Lynch and Newton, and bringing in a (admittedly very good and young) ruck when we already have two strong rucks in Edmonds and Moody, feels like another massive step backwards.

                        After a one-win season?

Honestly, I'm not sure even losing those two could make things much worse. It just feels like we need a whole new plan.

Women’s set up is in need of a review a lot more than the men’s .
Needs a huge wide wire broom. From boot studder up.

Yep someone needs to investigate why we have lost so many players since this competition has started. It is puzzling and extremely disappointing.

                              Re: Aflw 2022/2023

The team was fairly competitive in 2023 but our VFLW's 2022 season which ended in no wins and a percentage of 16 was alarming and also illustrative of the club's utter incompetence in its women's football program.

I don't believe we have lost so many good players merely due to back luck. If we now lose an improving number 1 draft pick and a 2022 All-Australian player it will be further evidence of it.

Each club has two marquee players who can be paid anything but there is a salary cap for every other player on a list. How we can be constantly outbid by other clubs with lucrative financial offers for our players is mindboggling and an indictment on us.

I have heard really poor things about our culture, both within the playing group and with the way our club embraces the women's program.

Re: finances, yes there is a salary cap but there is much more of a 'local footy' feel with a lot of women's players having full time jobs that are organised by their clubs.
