Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

Brenton Sanderson is saying what a good player Bowes is, it's also speculated that his salary next season is close to 850K.
No wonder they are looking to dump that amount of money.

Say he’s owed $1.5M in his two years.

No Hunter, Dunkley, many others, possibly no Lobb.

Would you buy Pick 7 for $1.5M (and Bowes as steak knives)?

You could do a deal with him to spread the $850k

Yes but on the proviso we don't have anywhere else to put that money.

We don't have many major players out of contract next year aside from Weightman (there are a lot but not good players like we had this year) and players we need to resign for 2024 should be affected by this dump so there's not much money we need for current players it seems.

Which just leaves the question of if there's anyone coming in we need to pay.

He has two years. Irrespective, we’d need to commit $1.5M to him.

            Is Pick 7 worth $1.5M?

It would impact us for two years (at worst), but the kid at Pick 7 could give us a career. Not to mention making it likely 5 first rounders in two years after Dunkley.

$1.5M is a heap of cash. Pick 7 is juicy.

That is a bit too much to pay without knowing how close we are to the cap or if it will stymie us over the next two seasons.

I think Bowes has something to offer as a player especially if we were to lose Hunter. Very tempted because I think it's a strong draft but I can't see us pulling that trigger.

It’s an interesting thing to consider.

Bowes is steak knives. No one knows what the ‘market value’ of a top 10 pick- salary dump trade is. As this is the first. I find it fascinating where the ‘market value’ is. It could set the tone for the future as precedent.

Also worth considering if we pay pick 37 for someone to take Hunter (ball park, ideally someone wants to pay to get him) and his contract at say 1.2m over 2 years and we use that money to get pick 7 for 1.5 million over 2 then we're paying Hunter+pick 37+300k for pick 7+Bowes. That's not a bad deal at all.

Even better if it's Hunter + 300k for pick 42+pick 7+Bowes of course.

How on earth did they ever value him so highly!?

Amazing. I'd barely heard of the bloke.

what I am saying is, say he is worth $600k per annum and we give him 4 years. Spread the extra $300 over the 4 years to even out the pain.

Legit who knows what's going on up there. Did they just want to make sure no one leaves?

I think they back ended his contract.

There should be a rule that if we sign a contract it can't vary by more than 15% year to year.

Billy Frampton is expected to cover Jordan Roughead's role at the Pies says Colin Young.

I get that, but would you effectively buy Pick 7 that is dependent on us absorbing $1.5M?

Or is that too much cash?
