This appeal is a free hit for EFC and the players - there is no expectation that they'll win it but there is nothing to lose by launching it.

How the EFC have treated the suspended players who have already left the club is wretched. When this appeal is heard and invariably lost, I hope our club and Crameri/Prismall sue that piece of shit club for all they are worth.

Do you more sympathy for the players as a result?

It's not that I don't have sympathy for the young and the fringe players, but these guys simply did not do enough to question what was being done to them (and what they 'consented' to have done to them by an unscrupulous footy dept). The senior players (Watson, McVitamins, Fletcher, Hille, etc..) I have absolutely no sympathy for, and I suspect that they were well informed of what was being undertaken. Even Prismall today confirmed that Dank administered all of his specific injections - Doc Reid was frozen out of his particular regimen - and that he didn't delve into specifically what he was being injected with (other than generic 'animo acids' and 'vitamins'). To top it off, Prismall's response to not listing Thymosin in his ASADA interview was telling - all 34 players coincidentally/conveniently omitted Thymosin from the ASADA interviews, and the clear inference was that the club instructed the players not to tell ASADA that Thymosin was administered to the players en masse.

What really irked me today was that the EFC suspended funding of all legal fees for Prismall and Crameri once they went outside the AFLPA/AFL legal bubble and chose their own legal representation. And the EFC obviously leaned heavily on poor Hal Hunter and tried to bully him into stopping any further legal action by charging him for legal fees. The club narrative, slavishly followed by the lemmings in the media, is that they care for the players - the reality is that they treated the players as lab rats during the regimen, and they sure as hell haven't shown any care for the players that are no longer at the club (and worth anything to them). They are a despicable organisation and are not fit to be in the competition.

The players are obviously less culpable than the club and in particular Hird/Dank/Robinson, but they aren't without blame.

Good, well thought out post. Have to agree with most of that.

If I feel bad for any players it's the current mob at Essendon who carry the stigma of that guernsey without having done anything wrong whatsoever.

What a completely bizarre set of circumstances.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Hurley, Heppell & Hooker all a good chance to walk to another club. I hope one of the club's is us.

My preference would be Hooker from that list. He can play on the biggest forward and is an excellent intercept marker. He's 28 next season, which is probably ok too. Hurley is a bit like Adams, and I'm hopeful Adams can be a lock in the long term. Heppell is a nice player but I'd be inclined to spend our salary cap elsewhere on other needs.

Heppell looking for $1 million - I would rather give that to our current mids. Hooker being chased by a number of clubs including Freo and Hawks. I agree he would be great down back.

I'm with you. Allegedly Fremantle & Hawthorn are going to throw the sink at Hooker with some well paid player retirements. I wouldn't mind Hurley if he played forward, he has the flexibility Bevo would want. Heppell I'd take at the right price, but if his asking price is around where a Omeara, Prestia etc would be I'd rethink it. I'm probably in the minority, but I think Bellchambers is worth looking into too. He had an excellent few years before levelling off, and he seems to me like a David Hale type trade of a seasoned ruckman who can do the basic job and play forward. Especially as a free agent.

I'd rather go after Jaeger at that price.

Unless Essendon can trade the players and cover part of their salary. We give them a fringe player or pick and they pay part of these guys salary. They're going to have to throw mega bucks around to make the minimum salary cap, so playing with this idea might be good for everyone.

I'd take Heppell in front of Prestia without a moments thought, based on exposure I would take him in front of O'Meara as well. The one thing about about Heppell is he plays every week, year in year out, at a pretty consistent level. I just don't think his hurt factor is high enough for us to throw a big offer at him. O'Meara's output and injury concerns make it hard to justify a ~$1mil offer.

Hurley is a very average forward, he's not quick on the lead, leads to bad spots, and isn't big enough to be a pack marking type. Essendon wasted a number of years playing him there.

I thought Bellchambers had a lot of potential a few years back, but after his serious ankle injury he's never reached any great heights. His ruck work is limited and his forward craft hasn't improved. For me he's no upgrade on Campbell. I'd wait to see where Boyd ends up and make a decision then. If he's too valuable to move outside the forward line in a couple of years then we can go after a forward/ruck, but until then we have that role covered.

Me too, unequivocally. Jaeger is Ben Cousins on steroids. When he gets a good run at it he will be a phenomenon and Heppell et. al. will look like VFL players next to him. He's going to be top 5 in the comp one day and the best time to get him is now when his value is low.

He's icing for us and just what we need. We have the backs and when Crameri returns the forwards too but a player like Jaeger in the midfield and anything is possible over an extended time frame. He's explosive, strong and makes the best decisions every time. He's potentially a game breaking mid.
