That's some damn fine casting there merantau. I like James Hird as himself. He'd probably take the part let's face it hes going to need the money.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Twodogs, I'm hoping others can come up with some more ideas. James could provide us with laughs for a decade or two if old man Alan is to be believed.

If Roy and HG taught me anything it's that we need to find a role for Russel Crowe when pitching a movie. He was Superman's dad, why not Hird's?

If we are going international then the guy from Dumb and Dumber has to play James.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

How about Roland Roccochello as James' hair stylist? Peter Foster (of Bai Lin slimming tea fame) as his business manager? Molly Meldrum as his psychiatrist, Nolene Donaher (of Sylvania Waters fame) as Tahnia's mum and Kerry-anne Kennely as her mum's best friend. Angry Anderson as James' driver and confidant? Johnny Farnham as Bomber Thompson, Eddie McGuire as himself, Hugo Weaving as Gillion McLaughlin, Alex Demetriades would be a better fit as Andrew Demetriou than Waleed Aly. Waleed could play Alavi, the alchemist. Stephen Curry would be good as Stephen Dank or ex-Pres Evans. Jake King would make a good gym owner and Dustin Martin's old man could be a bikie.

Speaking of Jobe and the Brownlow how has that not been decided yet?

Are the AFL just hoping people forget?

Held up for some reason thought I heard Gillon say he is dreading making that decision.

They can't make a decision until the appeal is heard. If Essendon wins Watson will keep the Brownlow- and Slobbo is reporting Essendon has strong legal advice they'll win!

                        They've lost then.

It'd be a fair cop if it were Essendon (the club) in the dock. But from a WADA POV the club walks away scot free

They don't know how to apply the rules to a 'good bloke'. It's a very technical part of international law

The biggest problem as far as the club is concerned is that the AFL went way, way too early in going after the club, coaches and administrators.

By insisting that ASADA produce an interim report so that action could be taken on the eve of the finals, they ended up acting on an investigation that was nowhere near complete.

Having taken the action they did against the club, Hird, Thompson and Corcoran, they effectively prohibited themselves from taking further action when the investigation was finalised.

Had they been patient they could have gone far harder at the club without publically losing face.

It will come down to two scenarios for the AFL. Upset 50,000 Essendon members by taking it off him or attract the ridicule of a far greater number by letting him keep it.

Gill has to do it and he knows it.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Not if the players are cleared on appeal. The AFL will be thrilled because they can justify letting him keep it. If they were to take it off him it would be murky ground from a legal perspective and could be one case Essendon actually win if they challenged it in court.
