This post will be short & sweet, and more about off-field than the game itself.
the game was actually quite ugly to watch, which can happen against the lower sides, you can play down to their level at times, but to put it simply, the stars shined and it was simply just a business trip, did exactly what they needed to do and took their foot off in the last, likely just trying to avoid injuries. We’ve seen this tale before against lower sides I won’t be overreacting to anything from the game, it’s 4 points, healthy percentage and we move on to Sydney.
now to the off-field stuff, and it’s really just about Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. It’s likely been shared already on the forum but I just want to touch on the mental health aspect, I can be guilty of it, I’m sure there’s other in this forum that are the same and DEFINITELY people on social media and the general footy media. We can be very quick to react to every little article about players without considering how much, if any of it is true.
This season with all the speculation it’s been nearly impossible to tell what was going on, from the media circus what I had thought was essentially he had a drinking/partying problem and was on an alcoholics retreat. But in reality he was at rock bottom mentally with suicidal thoughts and went to a mental health retreat. Having known that at the start of all the dramas the narrative would’ve been vastly different on Jamarra, but when the wider public is fed completely false information it’s really turned so many people against Jamarra when really he has just been struggling and all the bs articles has made his situation worse and feel like he is even more alone than he already felt.
all this to say, I think we all should just be a bit more careful with what we say, and try to take what we hear with a grain of salt unless we get it straight from the player. The media simply wants clickbait articles to get paid and don’t care how true their story is and won’t take any accountability when they’re wrong. To put it to bed I’ll simply say, thank you Jamarra for speaking up, I hope you are in a better space mentally and I can’t wait to see you run back out with the boys and kicking snags.
for anyone who hasn’t heard the podcast it’s a fantastic listen, see link below. Would definitely recommend even for non doggies supporters
