Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 21, 2025 vs GWS

This is the Round 21, 2025 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once tonight's game against GWS has concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual player.

    1. Tall Timber. Lobb, JOD, English, Darcy, Naughton, they all performed tonight!
    2. Swift of hand quick of mind, strong of will, stick to the process. All of our ball players. At the source either getting it out on our terms and flipping it until we had a viable 'go' option, or ensuring it didn't come out on theirs and resetting for Chili to set the next contest up on that basis. I just want to see this against Geelong, Collingwood, Brisbane, Adelaide et al, in finals. No excuses.
    3. Naughton. I mean Darcy did what are fast becoming 'Darcy things', much like 'Bont things', but Naughts brought all elements of the forces at his disposal that threatened to grab the competition by the throat a few years ago. How good Naughts and Darc pushing Redline for September.. WE better bloody get there!!!

      1. The tall Timber kicking more than half the score
      2. Cleary was so steady in the backline
      3. McNeil must give him credit

      Anchors

      1. Umpires lost the plot in the 3rd quarter with some very ordinary decisions - Stringer marking after it was touched, stupid 50m penalties and the overturned goal for starters.

      2. Supporters for not showing up. I would have expected closer to 30k

      3. VDM first three touches were woeful - two to opposition and a handball to Buss's feet

B1 Naughty in terrific form, he really looked like he was starting to get going around the bye, certainly by the St Kilda game. Sydney game a bit of swagger and it’s been full steam ahead since. Commanding performance tonight in all facets of the game.

B2 English, was a Tim Irish game by my ranking system. Highest praise I can offer. A bit like Naughty, he seems to have found his best footy and it’s starting to come together more often and more frequently for him.

B3. Complete football. Saw high quality footy, effort, decision making and execution on every line. We looked like a team that was organised and knew what to do to pull their pants down.

A1 Killed the contest so early that the high stakes shifted to next game before we really could appreciate the scalp.

A2 Video review of the Poulter goal.had a great sight of it and it’ll take compelling vision to change my mind, that was a clear goal.

        A3 GWS. Flog club.

          1. Our defence never gave them a look in. Cleary - his best game for the Club.

          2. Darcy - that goal he kicked after the siren shows that he can take his moment

          3. Naughton's competitive nature was on full display.

          Anchors.

          1. The arm chop, high tackle and in the back against English. He copped the trifecta but the umps were sleeping

          2. Poor crowd

          3. We missed some easy goals

Tim Irish as highest praise, love it!
He is such an Anglo and yet could be we Irish Vikings.
I worked with an Italian "Greco" so those of a national name are often not of that nationality.
            How important was that win?

              My system:

Tim English is a par performance.
Tim Cornish is a good, workmanlike performance.
Tim Orkneys / Isle of Man / Welsh is an unusual performance.
              Tim Shetland when battling manfully
Tim Scottish when hard at it.
Tim Irish when he is at his best.
