    2018 Trash n Treasure

We have previously had a thread this time of year for bargain basement recruiting. Looking for who might be a good fit for us that will come cheap from another club, has been delisted or is a state league player. I'll get the ball rolling. In no particular order

    Josh Willams

Discarded by lol Norf this year. He is a 190cm attacking speed machine taken in the 2016 National draft with a pick in the 30's from memory. Not sure what happened at Norf but he did suffer a bit from injury. He may not have suited Brad Scott's wannabee tough guy approach. We were keen on both he and Cedric Cox in that draft to improve our speed around the ground. Played a couple of AFL games. Could be worth a rookie spot?

    Mitch Hibberd

22yo 190cm half back/winger type also from lol Norf. Highly regarded in his draft year of 2015. Another let go by the Kangas. He was quite a smart footballer in the u/18's as a top age player. Injuries have been an issue for him. Played a few AFL games. Another rookie possibility?

    Jess Glass McCasker

21yo 195cm key defender from Carlton. Was taken with the Blues 1st pick in the 2016 rookie draft. I saw him keep Schache almost kickless in a state u/18 game for WA just after he had kicked a bag the previous game. Same draft as Kieren Collins but I though JGM was a better proposition as he was faster, taller, more athletic and could link up running out of defence. Yet to debut

Hugh Goddard in the rookie draft. I saw a bit of him getting in the way of me watching Zaine at the Falcons. Very talented KPP. But would need a very thorough medical and fitness testing (ie whether his speed has reduced as rumoured by someone last week).

Will Hayes in the rookie draft seems to be getting louder.

He's quite a speedster. In last years state combine he ran a 2.92

He needs to work a bit on his kicking.

I recommended this guy (Nick Hind) to a VFL club in a scouting role I was doing...got ignored. No guarantee he will make it but has some genuine AFL quality traits.

Werribee marking forward Josh Corbett might not be in the bargain bin by the time the draft comes around

I'd really consider Sam Collins from Werribee if Adams goes. He was absolutely dominant

As would I but isn't there some thought that both Carlton and Gold Coast will be given access to 2 State League players each?
Collins could be in high demand

Anthony Wilson - Norwood, small forward. He’s mature age, but super quick (at least at SANFL level) and can kick goals and be active in the front half. Was previously on the Crows RL. Probably in the highly unlikely category, but he played like an AFL player on Sunday and has some traits we could use.

I’d definitely take a look at Mitch Hibberd. Good mover, good size and a good user. Haven’t followed him to understand where it went wrong...but young, development in him. Sounds like a good rookie list prospect to me.

Shane McAdam, a relative of Gilbert & Adrian, a mature age forward for Sturt. Has lots of tricks!

I posted this in another thread, but this seems the perfect thread:

Ammo's stars big season sees recruiters lurking (afel.com.au)

TWO AFL clubs have expressed interest in former VFL midfielder Anthony Scott after a stellar season with Old Trinity in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).

AFL.com.au understands Western Bulldogs and St Kilda have enquired about the mature-aged left-footer.

The 23-year-old is set to meet the Bulldogs next week, while his management has been in talks with the Saints' newly appointed list manager James Gallagher.

Scott played eight games in the TAC Cup for Oakleigh Chargers in 2013, before earning the VAFA Rising Star award the following year and a position on Richmond's VFL list ahead of 2015.

So far, it has been a case of poor timing for Scott.

His three seasons in the VFL system coincided with Richmond's tilt towards its prized 2017 flag, and was compounded by an enviously small Tigers' injury list.

Scott was forced to play out of position and was given minimal opportunities to showcase his class in the midfield.

His decision to return to the VAFA has kept alive Scott's hopes of an AFL career.
