Parker definitely has athletic traits well suited to being successful in the AFL. There's something there so hopefully the coaches can develop him especially as a wingman which has been a troublesome position for us to fill over the years.

Does anyone else get Kingsley Hunter flashbacks seeing him running around in the 25?

Agree swoop! Omg I did think that and quickly erased it.

        VFL player summary: Round 5

Development manager Jamie Maddocks reviews the seven AFL-listed players who featured for Footscray on Saturday night against Southport.

        Louis Butler

23 disposals, five marks, two clearances, two inside 50s

Louis played big minutes on the wing. His aerobic capacity enabled him to cover lots of ground, resulting in him finding plenty of the ball. Whilst he needed a bit more polish with some of his ball use, the creation of opportunities is a positive. He was able to compete well at stoppage and threw his body in around the ground.

        Buku Khamis

21 disposals, four marks, nine hit outs, three clearances, two goals

Buku again played a mixture of forward and in the ruck. He was able to compete well at stoppage - giving our mids some good looks around the ground. He was able to find space forward and competed well in the air. Buku’s ability to finish his work in front of goal was a great feature in his game.

        Charlie Parker

13 disposals, four marks, four tackles, one goal, four inside 50s

Charlie played most of the game on the wing. It was another step forward for him - he was more involved in our ball movement and created plenty of opportunities for himself to score. He also put himself in positions to win aerial contests, which he will capitalise on in the future.

        Arthur Jones

        15 disposals, three marks

Arthur spent the game as a forward closer to goal this week. He generated plenty of opportunities at ground level, but wasn’t quite clean enough to make the most of them. His footwork in congested situations on a few occasions was a highlight.

        Luke Cleary

19 disposals, five marks, two tackles

Luke played down back and had his best game since arriving at the Club. His contest game was very strong, and he was able to halve all of his 1v1s while helping out his fellow defenders when he could. His ability to gain possession and find teammates in traffic is a real strength of his game. Every week his game is building and becoming more and more balanced.

        Cody Raak

        18 disposals, three marks

Cody played down back this week as we needed some more AFL presence in defence. His was able to use his hands to help us move the ball out of our defensive-50 which was great to see. He also competed well in 1v1s. Every week is an opportunity for him to grow his aerobic capacity, while becoming more familiar with this level.

        Jordon Sweet

14 disposals, four tackles, 36 hit outs, three clearances, six inside 50s

This was Jordon’s first game back since suffering a concussion against Richmond. He was competitive in the ruck and gave our mids first use inside the contest. Jordon also had some nice follow-up moments around the ground. We didn’t see as much aerial involvements as we usually see so we need to continue to grow this side of his game.

Based on Buku's performance, surely he is close to selection.

Yep, really good signs from him in the new forward/ruck role.

Also, whilst he might not be ready yet for the top level, I think we've found a player in Cleary.

              Q. Is Butler being developed as a Wingman ?

Buku's performance is a real highlight. Something real special could be evolving in a fwd/ruck type of role

Arthur jones looks like he has some good attributes.

              thanks for the info AxeMan

Yep. As far as I can tell he has played predominantly wing at VFL level this year and came into the senior side (for a week) in that role as well. Jones and now Parker have also spent time on the wing so it definitely seems a focus to develop some wingmen.

I’ve certainly liked some of the glimpses Cleary has shown. He’s got some smarts.

From what I've seen and read see him replacing Duryea as that mid sized defender who uses it well. He moves like Williams imo but I see Bailey pushing up the field and Cleary extra height is handy.
I should leave it alone but you're not right
