Two players in position if need is a real positive.

Think we may regret not getting George with our second pick.

If Gallagher can play wing I'd be happy.

      Best KPD
One of the best small forwards
      Flexible small

Didn’t expend future picks on players we didn’t truly rate, keeping F1, F1, F2, F4, F4 & F4 next year with over $1M+ cap spare. Setting up the next draft, free agency and trade period perfectly.

The + is for next year looking amazing

We filled two of our biggest positions of need and didn't cough up anything so we can have a lot of weapons for the draft and trade period next year. Basically all we have left is to get Baker, one rookie pick and elevated Sweet & Gardner.

            B.

Nothing extraordinary but we did what we needed to by addressing our main flaws.

Pick 10-15 is a bit awkward - you don't get access to the best talent so you miss out on the top mids/key forwards.

In simple terms I'd prefer the #1 key defender over the 6th-9th best midfielder of the draft. That we actually are desperate for a good KPD is a bit of luck in how it panned out.

George sounds nice but of he's a medium forward only well, we kinda have one already. Weightman. To get a genuine small forward is a positive for this list.

Don't know much about Gallagher but at this point in the draft you want somebody who has an elite trait and strong work ethic. Seems he has the latter and perhaps an innate ability to find the ball.

B + for me. In the words of George Costanza "Not showing off, not falling behind"

3 picks wasn't enough from my perspective to get a higher rating.

We've got the quiet achiever and unflappable Busslinger as a key defender, the attention seeker and high energy forward in Clarke and the hard worker and versatile Gallagher so a great balance.

                Would have loved a ruckman.

Ball use and intercepting (high up the field as a forward cutting off passes though) seemed strengths in his highlights.

What is the rating based on?

I gave a A- because I based it on the pick order we had and who we chose?

I gave it a B+ so we are close in our ratings.
Reasons are detailed in previous post.

Think we have done well with Busslinger and Clarke and Gallagher is a long shot (seems like a Butler tom me). Did we need a key back? Maybe, but where does that leave Darcy? Did we need a small forward? Maybe but again fitting another small into the forward line means someone like Vanders, West, Garcia, McLean etc needs to move up the ground. Are we ok with that.

I would have preferred we had taken George with our second pick , addressing a need to refresh the running brigade. We must rate the midfield options next year, but whilst we have 2 F1 picks if things go to plan they will both be in the 14 to 18 range.

I get what you are saying but the draft isn't always about balancing the playing list.
Busslinger and maybe 1 or 2 others were in the mix for pick 13 so not a mistake there.
Clarke or the 12 month wait for George doesn't seem like a huge miss. While I would prefer George Clarke will play senior football next year.
Gallagher doesn't seem like a long shot to me as he is a hard worker with some elite traits.

I'm okay with a logjam of similar players if we pick the ones in form.

After the distractions of Hunter and the laconic nature of Schache we needed high energy and driven players.
Busslinger might be quiet but we shouldn't question is determination. Clarke and Gallagher will be very driven.

Time will tell if it works well or us.

Absolutely. They likes of McLean and West are good candidates to take over as mids (their natural positions) so we can play a more natural crumbing pressure forward which is a clear gap in the list. I'll take Clarke over McNeil or Vanders for sure.

Bang on. Stack the lines with natural forwards, backs and mids. Guys who are more natural mids join the midfield group and run through high half forward. Guys who’ve been half backs their career (JJ, VDM) go to the HBF or maybe the wing. And Darcy could play anywhere long term. Having quality KPP support at both ends means there’s no pressure to pigeon hole him yet. Play him as the 5th on the bench and let his footy dictate where he dominates longer term. I’m more than ok with this, I think it’s great that although Bevo wants 42 flexible players, we can start to move a lot of players into their more natural positions and tap into their natural strengths further.

Now if there’s excessive competition for spots. Great. Perform at AFEL & VFL level or watch others get games. The likes of McLean, West, Garcia, JJ (and perhaps VDM outside the forward line) are good enough to get a game. Let them force out blue collar state league recruits like Scott and McComb (effectively Baker) with form. Task Baker, Scott & McComb (Crozier & Hannan too) to take this AFEL opportunity again. If team selection rewards form and strong competition drives strong form. That’s all upside.
