There's some guy who was providing updates on twitter and he mentioned Tutt and Sherman were two of the better players. Would love them to be right to inject some much needed pace.

Tutt/Sherman as safe as a lock as you get to be a sub next week IMO. Perhaps they can share a game between themselves.

                Re: Williamstown Team: Round 2

15 bulldogs players in the seniors today

                Veszpremi
                - Went OK but wasn't consistent

Tutt - Struggled to get into the game early and fumbled to the ball all to often. Nice last quarter.

                Roberts
                - Played as a defender but seems intent on playing from behind. He was out marked on a few occasions and it cost us a goal but it's early days for him.

                Pearce
                - Quiet game and he doesn't have a lot of confidence kicking on his left foot.

Skinner - Inconsistent but a good game never the less. Played as a forward but was swung into the back line in the 3rd quarter when there was an avalanche of goals against us.

Mulligan - Very quiet and there isn't much to write about.

Talia - Effective game but lacks any dashing flair which seems to be a requirement with defenders now. He generally made good decisions and used the ball OK.

                Djerrkura
                - 4 quarter effort and battled hard all day despite some skills errors.

                Johannisen
                - He didn't get a lot of the ball but I liked his game because he used the ball well and provided a bit of badly needed dash out of the back line.

Redpath - I didn't see anything in today's performance that would suggest he will add a lot of value. Skills were poor and I don't think he reads the game all that well. He's physical but that won't get him far unless other parts of his game improve.

Campbell - Had a good game but a lot of his hit outs didn't fall to his team mates. Kicked a couple of goals but is a slow mover around the ground. Copped a couple of heavy knocks.

Cordy - Clearly our best player today and he was effective up forward, in the ruck and also when pushing back and clogging up the Blues forward line. He kicked 3 goals in the 2nd quarter (our only goal scorer for that quarter) and 4 for the game.

                Gilbee
                - Very quiet but used the ball very well as we would all expect. Kicked the first goal of the last quarter which got things rolling

Sherman - Played OK for the first 3 quarters before getting a lot more of it in the final term. Needs a couple of more weeks at Williamstown.

Hooper - Despite kicking 3 goals for the game, I was very disappointed with his effort. He had a clear 10 mtrs (if not more) on a defender as he was running in unchallenged for a goal and just didn't back himself with another bounce and missed the goal from just 30 mtrs out. He consistently kicked short to his team mates (grubbing kicks) even when there was no real pressure on him and as a result caused a lot of turnovers.

The two new Williamstown recruits in James Wall and Jamie McNamara won't add a lot of value to the side on todays effort. McNamara gets the ball a lot but keeps turning it over and Wall is very slow for a lean guy.

As you can tell, despite the win I didn't find a lot to get excited about.

Relieved Seagulls scavenge a win from the Blues

                      Brent Diamond - The Age

WILLIAMSTOWN was somewhat relieved to notch its first victory of the season by 14 points against the Northern Blues at Visy Park yesterday.

Last year's grand finalist has had a huge turnover of players, both from its own VFL-listed team and its AFL affiliate, Western Bulldogs, over the pre-season.
                      Advertisement: Story continues below

It has some second-guessing whether the Seagulls can be as good as their 2011 season, which included the inaugural Foxtel Cup.

The Seagulls trailed by 23 points at the last change before piling on six unanswered goals in the final term to win, 12.12 (84) to 9.16 (70).

Many thanks for the report GVGjr, much appreciated.

Very pleased with Cordy's progress over the summer and a great result he's carrying on especially given there may have been some disappointment at missing the senior side this week.

Doesn't appear to be too much else to get overly excited about, but good Sherman and Tutt got through. Hopefully they find some consistent form and can get into the frame for selection over the next few rounds.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Cordy of 2012 is vastly different to previous seasons. His kicking yesterday was long and accurate and a couple of times he really did make a difference in the back line by help out his team mates. He still has a way to go though.

Djerrkura was good and provided plenty of run. Based on that performance he should be very much in the mix for a promotion.

Campbell has ability and is strong in a contest but his hit outs often don't fall our way so he is effectively getting hit outs just for the sake of it. I guess King has a good project player to work with but I'd be reluctant to promote him.

Sherman might close the gap early on a recall and Tutt is probably a step or two further back.

It will be interesting to see if Austin and Tom Hill can force their way into the side.

I think Williamstown is playing the Cats at Torquay next week and while I'll probably make the trip but based on last year trying to post anything while being at the game is just about futile.

Great report, I too was at the game and you have summed it up perfectly.

Cordys game was fantastic and very encouraging. Hopefully Minson and Roughy saw that and realise they are not safe.

I really rated Djerrkura's game. I said last year I think he will make it and become a very solid player. I think he plays the way Macca loves, he will be playing next week.
