Whats happening with the Rising Sun? I remember as a kid when the old bridge was replaced with the new one that virtually hid the Rising Sun and I guess eventually killed it.

It's being redeveloped into apartments. Because we need less amenity in Footscray and more apartments.


Dunno what the holdup is though. It closed before The Buckingham did and the Buck was closed for over a year before the redevelopment started there and it's almost finished

Now wondering if having a stadalone will cost that much in the long run, if at all?

Surely a few thousand turning up, buying food & drinks etc at WO will earn the club some $$$

The club will be asking for supporters to put their hands in their pocket.

In a first for the Bulldogs, Victoria University will also be the naming rights partner of the Whitten Oval. The VFL team will play an as-yet-undecided number of home games at the club's spiritual base, which has undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation in recent years. However, more funds are needed, including supporter donations, to allow the venue to meet VFL stadium requirements.

Great news. Love the fact that they are reverting back to the Footscray name for the ressies team.

The club has really taken some massive steps forward (both on and off the field) this year. The future is so damn exciting. It is a great time to be a Bulldogs supporter.

Even though I live the other side of town, always went to Footscray games at the then Western Oval as a kid in the 80's/90's.

Would be pretty cool if we could 'rig' the AFL and VFL draw to get our first VFL home game at WO on a Saturday avo and then Ethihad game that night for our opening game. Club puts on membership drive, entertainment, get some champions out too, and then buses to Ethihad (for a fee). I'd be in, in a heart beat. Great way to kick the year off and celebrate everything.

Been wondering about this for a while, so may as well put it out there. Not sure if it's been discussed internally but i'd be fine with a VFL Footscray membership. Say 25-30 dollars for the year. Some supporters may find it prohibitive. perhaps if it's marketed as every dollar going back into the club/VFL team related development it may come off more supporter friendly. I don't recall if this was asked in the survey done a while back.

At Vic Park you can just walk straight in on one side, but's more of a community benefit as they have a park there also. Plus they can afford it.

Likely it'll be five-ten entry on matchday like non-members at Willy, or will they end up just banking on food/drink sales to fund a significant portion of it as Mofra said?

Great news on the name. I was ambivalent about it all but now I hear the Footscray Bulldogs name it certainly makes me feel all gooey inside.

Awesome idea. The club had buses running from Whitten Oval to Princes Park in 1997 up until the move to Docklands.

Flinders st on a Saturday after the footy back in the day you could hear all the calls of "how did you blokes go?" from platform to platform.

So VFL grounds are supposed to be fully fenced to enable clubs to collect money I suppose. E.g North Port Oval is and they hold finals there which makes more sense. The only other ground I went to was at Geelong but they use Kardinia Park.

As mentioned Vic Park you can walk in one side although obviously the filth can afford not to collect money at the gate. The Werribee ground has a car park that is manned but otherwise open to walk through every other day of the week when there's not a game on.

I wouldn't like to see it fenced off. I've gone running around Footscray (for fitness, not from the Police) and its great to get in their after hours. The ground doesn't seem to get trashed now although more games on it might men the surface would need more protection. The views from the oval of the city are fantastic. Maybe I should "Buy a seat to make a stand" to guarantee a good spot for games there.

I work in Coburg and at lunch often go there for a kick. Their offices are in the Grand Stand meaning you can always get in the car entrance.
