I expect the complete opposite. Think the hawks will be crushed so I took the -8.5 last night
Fremantle has never been on top of the AFL ladder in their 19 years. If they win against the Hawks it will be like one of those Tour De France sprint finishes where the eventual winner hasn't lead throughout but gets their nose in front just before the end of the race.
Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"
I felt the same last night. I thought to myself, I wonder how Pav feels, then of course my thoughts turned to Grant, West, Johnson…
But then again, it isn't about us. Fremantle have always had a good administration, but done it tough everywhere else. Their fans are mostly viewed as “Don't want to be an Eagles fan”. They've never been taken seriously in WA (in my experience anyway) or for that matter, anywhere. How many MCG games do they get, for example, when they visit?
To see their fans last night, cheering, chanting, you could feel the passion through the TV screen, and whilst it made me sad to think of all the times we've come close to that feeling yet never felt it, I was mostly just happy for them.
As for next week, who knows? It's a flip of the coin. The media will twist itself into many knots trying to catalogue and predict all the many variables, but for me I'm just going to enjoy what should be a great game, and hope the fireworks are purple.
