How Giants' coach Leon Cameron plans to bounce back from horror 2020
see https://www.afl.com.au/news/545606/l...om-horror-2020
I know you are all heartbroken to see one of the 2019 GF teams the Giants crash and burn in 2020.
And then there's all the gun players they lost at the end of last season:
But perhaps most disturbing of all came post-season. Jeremy Cameron (Geelong), Zac Williams (Carlton), Aidan Corr (North Melbourne), Zac Langdon (West Coast), Jye Caldwell (Essendon) and Jackson Hately (Adelaide) all decided they wanted out.
So can Leon Cameron get Hogan and the team firing and making the finals, or will they wilt again and finish 9 - 12 in 2021?
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

I know he comes with considerable baggage, but I feel like their get of Hogan is being drastically undersold. They got him for actually nothing and he showed in 2020 that he's still a really good player with considerable upside to his game.
But - the guys they lost is a lot to see depart all in one go, and will probably hurt them for the next 5-10 years. I don't see how you could make a case for them improving given the talent loss.

Williams and Cameron are big losses, nobody could sugar coat that as being anything other than really shit for them. The others will impact in different ways over time.
I agree with Happy that signing Hogan on the single year terms they have is a really good move. If I was managing the Giants list and he put his best foot forward I'd immediately extend him out to two and make it really clear he was fully backed and give him the opportunity to get into it with a sense of security. People forget that irrespective of being a bit of a dill at times he's actually been through the ringer personally, and given his talent with a clear run and at this age he could still be anything.
Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.

Hogan might still show glimpses but from all reports, his off field issues will always present a problem.

They're still a strong enough side but I can't see them being a threat this season. They still have plenty of talent
It will be interesting to see if Leon Cameron coaches them right through the season

You read it here first! Leon Cameron first coach to be labelled "Under the Pump" in Season 2021.

I hate it that Leon is at GWS and that he went to Richmond. He was such a good player for us. He is very loyal to his players - I'll give him that. His defence of Toby Green after he kicked Dahlhaus in the face was hard to take.

Didn't he sign a new contract last year?
For 3-years?
How exactly is he under the pump?
If you want to tell me that Nathan Buckley or Simon Goodwin are 'under the pump', well, then you will have my absolute agreement.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I was making a point about the previous point to mine. If he is on a 3 year contract then he's safe this year at least. Yes, Goodwin definitely will be feeling the pressure if Melbourne don't perform.
Collingwood were lamentable in their last outing and if that, coupled with their disastrous handling of the racism inquiry and Buckley's involvement/non-involvement in events over the years, hasn't set off some alarms then I'd be surprised.
Potting coaches is a blood sport for thd media these days. Coaches certainly have a tough job. I remember when Bill Stephen was coach of Fitzroy. They were on a broken down bus on the Road to Nowhere but Stephen used to get a lot of support from panellists on World of Sport and in the football world generally.

This club has no soul and as their AFEL gifted talent pool continues to run dry they will become the Gold Coast Suns MKII
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

He's playing Ward in the ruck.
Expect to see him back at the kennel next year. Welcome back Cal. We probably should bump the Welcome to the Bulldogs Cal Ward thread.
