Over the many years that The Bill has endured, there have been many officers who have been amongst Sunhill's finest.

Who stands out for you as a character you loved & adored or just didn't like?

Like:

DCI - Frank Burnside - 'You're nicked' was uttered on more than one occassion. Tough & hard.

WPC - Polly Page - Had a heart of gold, unlucky in love & had a beautiful cockney accent.

DC - Liz Rawton - Came down from Newcastle, smart copper.

Sgt - Bob Cryer - You can't put an old head on young shoulders. Massive beak tho!

WPC - Viv Martella - Another cockney. Was shattered when she was killed off.

DC - Mickey Webb - Poor Mickey, violently raped by a psychopath, his Mum died when visiting, his girlfriend was a bent copper & the next girlfriend did the business with the Inspector. Despite all that, he has a heart of gold.

Dislike:

DS - Debbie McAllister - A pain from start to finish.

TDC - Gary Best - Surely no-one could be that stupid!

PC - Gabriel Kent - What a nasty piece of work!

Inspector Tom Chandler - Smarmy, ladder climber.

DC - Jim Carver - Just couldn't hack his spineless manner or nasaly voice.

Tom Chandler, a real breath of fresh air when he first started before he turned nasty and his past caught up with him
Don Beech, possibly the greatest role in the shows history. Those Australia shows were bad though.
Andrew Munroe, a good guv.
Matthew Boyden, a good thief taker before the little head really took over
Bob Cryher, no nonsense
Andrea Dunbar, good sort
Suzie Sim, another good sort
Steve Loxton, knew how to take a short cut when he needed to
Norika Datta, good copper
Cameron Tait, token Aussie
Tosh Lines, the backbone of CID
Claire Stanton, almost a match for Beech
Kerry Holmes, a good sort

Dislikes
June Ackland, shocker
Rod Skase, pretty boy
Polly Page, weak as water
Cass Rickman, dumb
Des Taviner, One too many "Reggie Babe"
George Garfield, another not so bright copper

My absolute favirute character was DI Chris Deakin. Smart, authoritive and happy to bend the rules occasionally. Also got caught sleeping with the bosses wife when he was with Major Crime Squad and was sent to Sunhill as a punishment.

How PO'd was he with Jack Meadows when he and a few others took the rap for Beech and Meadows dodged it?

Deakin was a good, solid copper.

Deakin was a good, solid copper.

He was the investigating officer in my favorite Bill ep. Cant remember what it was called but some guy who worked at a school had stalked one of the female students. They pick him up early in the episode and the rest of it is Deakin V this psycho in the interview room. Even tually it's turns out that he's got her in the back of a refrigerated van that only has a limited amount of air and they've goota work it all out before she suffocates. It was tense TV at it's best.
