    Waterloo

One of the great battles of all time was fought 200 years ago today.

Waterloo, where the duke of Wellington faced of against Napolean for control of the sea around Europe. The aftermath continued until the last war when England effectively lost control of its empire.

Big year for battles this year because later in the year will be the 500th anniversary of the battle of Agincourt, a great medieval battle and my favorourite battle of all time.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Don't forget Magna Cartas birthday just a few centuries earlier.

Given that we are in a rush to piss all over the meaning and significance of Magna Carta, now is a very good time to highlight it.

I remember it well, Sybil is fuming because she thinks that Basil has forgotten their anniversary. I think that's where I first heard the word Agincourt. The pronunciation rules were a bit different (they didn't pronounce the word court at the end properly) so it stuck in my mind.

Yes that's the one Twodogs. Sounded like Agencore when Basil pronounced it.

One of my mates drove through Agincourt in an open top car with Elgar blaring on the CD player.
