Lesson - don't download movies, TV shows, Music - illegally.
Re: Lesson - don't download movies, TV shows, Music - illegally.
If dvd's, blurays and legal downloads were priced at a reasonable amount upon release you would kill off 80% of piracy. If you could buy a new release for $15 instead of $35 why wouldn't you get the full HD original.
Movies should recoup their costs and make profit at the box office anything after that is just cream. They are just maximising that cream.
If they don't make the money then it's just a bad movie in which case who would want a dodgy copy anyway.
Don't piss off old people
The older we get the less "LIFE IN PRISON" is a deterrent...

$10 a month for for Netflix or $20 for HBO now and you don't need to download illegally. Or you can subscribe to Stan, Presto, Hulu plus and you cover most of TV.

That's all well and good, but with my horrible connection I can barely stream anything in decent quality I wouldn't even bother trying after 4pm or weekends. NBN has stalled in my area, I don't think the rollout map has changed in over a year.

With my families foxtel we can watch Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black and other shows legally. I still prefer the convenience of watching on my computer when I choose to. I've even torrented shows that I own on DVD. You can't really use a streaming service on the train either.
Torrenting doesn't have to be bad though. I've bought DVDs because I enjoyed watching the show illegally. Shows I'd probably never be able to watch without torrents. One example is Mr.Show.

Precisely. I've bought so many box sets to get the episodes I missed or I want the extras or subtitles. Or to give as gifts.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

HBO are blocking accounts who illegally access their online streaming service from outside the USA via geoblocking services.

Yep, it's a north america only service and if you pay for the HBO now with an Aus account/location then they ban your account.
This is because foxtel have the rights to their programs here and the online services would detract from their business.
With these new laws i wonder what other websites are going to get banned in the name of internet piracy.
