Gala to help Rissell Gilbert: From Daily Mail

'I get very frustrated, emotional and confused most days': Comedian Russell Gilbert reveals his struggle to get his life back together in the year since his fiance was found dead in a hotel
The entertainer, 56, is still reeling from the death of his 'soulmate'
Rochelle Nolan was found dead in Melbourne on September 10, 2015
Gilbert is also recovering from a brain aneurysm after her death
He also suffered from a stroke during the surgery to treat the aneurysm
Gilbert's family and friends have been rotating visits to look after him

Australian entertainer Russell Gilbert is piecing his life back together after a catastrophic year.

The 56-year-old comedian is reeling from the death of his 'soulmate', Rochelle Nolan, Gilbert's fiancée and de facto wife of 19 years, who was found dead at the Crown Casino hotel in Southbank, a central Melbourne suburb, on September 10, 2015 - national R U OK Day. Gilbert is also recovering from a brain aneurysm diagnosed two weeks after Ms Nolan's death and suffered a massive stroke during the surgery to treat the aneurysm, the Herald Sun reported.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Gilbert asked: 'Why did this all happen to me?' He said he has been down and missing for five months, but is slowly returning to normality. 'For the first few months, I couldn't remember much.

'I get very frustrated, confused and emotional most days, and I struggle accepting the loss of my beautiful partner, Rochelle. My family and friends have helped me immensely,' Gilbert said. Gilbert, from Melbourne in Victoria, is known for his regular appearances in Hey Hey It's Saturday and Thank God You're Here.

While Gilbert said he has been progressing well due to therapy, his family and friends told the Herald Sun that his road to recovery will be long. His sister Ellie, who regularly visits from her home near Kyneton to look after Gilbert told the Herald Sun that the stroke has badly affected his speech. 'It is a jigsaw puzzle. He has to rewire his brain to go from 'A' to 'Z' again. At the moment, it's going from 'A' to 'J,' and back to 'B.''

Gilbert does four therapies a week to help improve his speech, memory, and some cognitive movements - but he must also do therapy for grief over Nolan's death. Gilbert's other sisters, Raylene and Lynette also rotate visits with Ellie to take care of him while his good friend and comedian, Mick Molloy, also visits often.

Molloy has rallied together Australian comedians to support Gilbert's rehabilitation by hosting a fundraiser, Gala for Gilbo, at Palais Theatre on July 17. The event will feature big names like Dave Hughes, Wil Anderson, Judith Lucy, Glenn Robbins, Denise Scott, Shaun Micallef, Richard Stubbs, Brian Nankervis, Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehmann, Bob Franklin, Lawrence Mooney, Trevor Marmalade, and Colin Lane.

Gilbert has made leaps and bounds in progress, after he had briefly gone missing just hours after he was unable to muster 'the strength' to attend the funeral of Ms Nolan. Following the service, Nova's breakfast radio host Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald desperately pleaded on Twitter after Gilbert's disappearance sparked concerns for his welfare among family and friends.
'We are very concerned about the health & safety of our friend Russell Gilbert. We need to locate him. If you see him please call the police,' Fitzgerald posted last September. However, a short time later, the 38-year-old radio comedian posted an update: 'Russell Gilbert has been found. Thanks to everyone for your help. He is a great man.'

Family and friends took to Twitter to rally behind Gilbert to show their support.
Michael Thompson tweeted: 'Great news that Russell Gilbert has been found safe and well. Get well soon Russ, you have all the support in the world.'
The Magnet posted: 'Russell Gilbert found. Wonderful news. Remember to stay close to loved ones when they need it most.'
Daniel Eade wrote: 'Thoughts and prayers are with Russell Gilbert. Great to hear he's been found. He's understandingly having a very tough time. Stay strong Sir.'
h_the_catsfanatic tweeted: 'So happy Russell Gilbert has been found. He needs all the love and compassion we can give! Hang in there buddy, you're very loved.'
And Kyla said: 'Russell Gilbert is such a kind and generous man, went out of his way to cheer up my family in tough times. My thoughts are with him.'

Following Ms Nolan's passing, hundreds of Australia's most recognisable faces poured into her Melbourne funeral service to pay their tributes. 'As you could all imagine, today is the hardest day of my life! It is with great sadness that I do not have the strength to be here with you all today, I'm just not ready to say goodbye,' Gilbert's words in the order of service read.
'We were together for 19 years and I will miss you my darling. 'I had so much love to give you and I wanted only to be with you. 'Sometimes things must come to an end, and sadly this is ours my soulmate and friend. 'These are the words I have spoken, oh how I wish that you were not broken. 'You're in my heart and soul forever. I'll miss you my darling.'
Gilbert signed off by thanking his supporters for their words of comfort and said he would 'see them all soon.'
Singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte was one of nine close friends to share a eulogy at the at the service to reflect on Ms Nolan's life.

The wake was also held at the actresses' venue in Brighton following the service. 'In honor of our beautiful friend Rochelle Nolan a service will be held on Tuesday 22nd September at 1pm at Brighton Baptist Church followed by gathering at Hotel Brighton,' Ms Bassingthwaighte shared on her Instagram page prior to the funeral. Ms Nolans lifelong friend, Jennifer Hansen, shared her touching eulogy on her blog following the service, saying that it was 'the hardest goodbye of all.'
'There was so much we had in common that bound us together – as Rochelle described in an email, we were 'besties,' she wrote. 'Our common interests included a love of Rose gold jewellery and clothing, fully-oaked chardonnay, movies, Oscars, music, writing, books, karaoke, singing and champagne.

'Rochy WILL always be in my thoughts in this world and I know later, when it's my time, we'll see each other in that OTHER world – wherever it is – a land where they only serve chardonnay; where Tim Curry is singing at a Vegas-style party amid cats and laughter.' Actor Vince Colosimo, television presenter Livinia Nixon and comedians Red Symons, Jimeon and Mick Molloy were all in attendance at Tuesday's service, The Advertiser reported.

After Ms Nolan's death, Gilbert opened up about her struggle in a heartbreaking post on Instagram. He said: 'To all our friends, my partner of 19 years passed away. She was an angel, mental illness is part of life, I was just trying to look after her. 'Saw what was going on and she had put a plan in place, look out for someone close, when you see the signs.
'Thanks to you all I will miss her. RIP Rochelle. Please don't worry for me. I will remember Rochelle before she got broken.'
The comedian and radio host also opened up about losing his sister when he was just 12-years-old. He said: 'Thank you to all our friends, I learned how to grieve as a boy when I lost my sister Debbie at 12, she was 13. 'We were best friends and it took me a long time to get over that, my mother and father helped me to learn how to grieve correctly.' Ms Nolan was tragically discovered on a day that the nation raised awareness of suicide, to reach out to those contemplating suicide or experiencing depression.

Gilbert shared the Lifeline crisis support number and called on Australians to ring the number if they see the danger signs. In the post, he said: '#Suicde #beyondblue #lifeline. Australia this is the number you see signs, Ring it 13_11-14 ️RING 13-11-14 #mentalillness #care #humans #love @relationships , #love #sad #grieve #death #passing #restinpeace #pray #god #help.'

He found national fame in the late Eighties as a performer on The Comedy Company. The TV star was also such a hit as a contestant on singing celebrity contest It Takes Two in 2007 that his exit from the show was described as the 'biggest eviction shock in TV history'. He has previously spoken out about his gambling problem, saying he once sold a house and spent the money before buying a new one. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
