You're right, they did record Throw Your Arms Around Me three times before it got big.
True Tears Of Joy,one of if not the best Hunters song ever.

Mark Seymour is remarkably honest in discussing how he deliberately tried to make the band more commercial after Human Frailty got them to a certain level of popularity, mainly chasing more radio play. In the 80s, mainstream (pre national JJJ) radio meant gigs in the suburban beer barn circuit which meant financial security.

Was somewhat successful short-term but they lost their edge and were never the same band. Classic case of chasing the bucks leading to a poorer product in the end.

Speaking of Hunters and financial security Barry Palmer once told me that he made more money bringing guitars back from America after touring with Hunters than what his wages were for the whole tour.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Talking to a Stranger for mine. I love that funky bass line.

My 2 favourite H&C songs are (X cover) Stuck On You and This Morning, which close out Human Frailty. Together they are a surprisingly emotional and quite epic close to a great album.

Just to bring the thread back to theme, my vote for best WPA track would have to be A Tale They Won't Believe, just for the sheer scale of the lyric and the memories of the wild reactions it would get live. Many others I love as well though; Under The Clocks (should be the Melbourne national anthem), Scorn of The Women, Roaring Days, Knockbacks In Halifax, Streets of Forbes, Rain In My Heart.....

Speaking of favourite ever bands X should have a thread of its own. Ian Rilen bought me a can of Vic one night at the Old Greek Theatre and I kept the crushed up empty in a drawer for years.

Step in, Step Out, Fathers Day, Monday's Experts, Away Away-the list could just keep going.

Funny you mention the reaction they got from Melbourne crowds. Melbourne had a reputation for being a bit restrained and too cool for school but they just went off when Weddos played. I've never seen anything like it.
