The Missing Link Story. A compilation of 70 and 80 Australian (mainly Melbourne) bands. ATM Win/Lose by Olly Olsen is playing. A very early techno effort fleshed out with whistling, hand clapping and finger clicking. Interesting song.

Re: What are you listening to at the moment
I've been binging. After the Fooeys concert in Melbourne if was them until I saw Montage of Heck. Then Nirvana. Somehow found Bowie, then nothing but him for 2 months. Then I realised my apple account lost my George Harrison stuff. So got it. Nothing but George now, and loving the demo version of Isn't It A Pity.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023 -

Re: What are you listening to at the moment
In terms of new music, I have been giving the new track by Grimes a flogging. Her last album, Visions, was insanely good and the new song is a cracker. Also been listening to the Cloud Nothings and The Mustang Jerks a lot. So little time, so much great stuff out there.
Have also spent a bit of time making a play list purely on music recorded in Los Angeles in 1966, for the benefit of 2 friends who contest my claim it is the greatest year/city in music history. They are countering with rival offerings (fools).Comment

Re: What are you listening to at the moment
San Francisco 67-68 sucks by comparison. Largely awful.
I love the topic of conversation though. For the late 70s, I like New York 76-77 (in a 5 km radius, punk, disco and hip hop were all being formed independently of each other, what was in the air?).Comment

Immediately pre-hippy though TD. Golden age

Ohh yeah. The Ramones, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Blondie (how can Debbie Harry look so drop dead gorgeous in her 70s?), Televeision, I wanna say the MC-5 but I know damn well they are from Detroit, that was a happening scene.
As a matter of interest what cities/years do friend advocate? I've thought of a couple more-Manchester in the mid-80s with Joy Division, Buzzcocks, The Smiths, The Fall and then later in the '90s with Happy Mondays, Oasis, Pulp, Duritti Column, ACertain Ratio and Berlin in the early '80s with Einsturzende Neubautin, Die Haut and the like. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: What are you listening to at the moment
Manchester scene was great late 70s - early 90s but not all going at once (Joy Division were done before Smiths appeared etc). The 78-79ish scene with JD, Buzzcocks, Magazine, ACR would've been great.
Apparently kings of the Berlin 80s scene were Birthday Party. Nick and the boys were massive there. The Bowie/Iggy/Eno Berlin era is pretty great too for a concentrated output.
That New York list is good. Can add Talking Heads, Dead Boys, Suicide, Voidoids, Heartbreakers in CBGBs scene alone.
That's the scene one of my friends argues for (chucking in Afrika Bambaata, Sugarhill Gang, Chic, Darkness on the Edge of Town era Broooce and the whole Studio 54/ Saturday Night Fever thing).
Another mate is a hippy/prog rock type who loves early 70s London (Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Roxy Music, Bowie, Genesis, TRex, Yes, King Crimson, solo Beatles etc).Comment

I was going to add Talking Heads to the NewYprk list but must have forgotten. I saw the Heartbreakers years ago, they were great. What about a band like The Cramps? Where would you list them? They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
