Yes you are right, I forgot about that. Still won't work for AFL Live though.

I have netgear push2tv http://www.netgear.com/landing/stream/tv/#push2tv and it worked for the Women's live stream but I couldn't for Foxtel go. It uses a wireless connection. Can be a bit laggy but on the whole the signal was ok. With Foxtel I think the app blocks screen casting and I would think the same may apply to the Live app.

Streaming Foxtel go to a TV kind of defeats the purpose of it being Go!
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It does but I was testing different applications. My initial belief was what was on the screen I could see on the TV but that wasn't the case. Also AFL live would be cheaper alternative to Foxtel if it would work.

I thought you could with Apple TV, but the picture is pixilated.

BT, from memory we are mainly if FTA this year, so maybe don't worry?

Yeah, good point Aza. I just find myself saying there's nothing to watch on Foxtel, so why pay for it? Just trying to find a way on the cheap to watch the 6 non FTA games. But if there's not so be it, streaming services like Netflix are just as good or if better than Foxtel and 90% cheaper, except not having footy.

I am with you, I am sick of Foxtel and only subscribe because of HD Sport.

The new version of Apple TV has so many aps and with Geo blocking the world is your Oyster.

Foxtel is the biggest ripoff going. I changed from sport to movies and was bored with after a fortnight. I only have it for the Dogs games.

Come to conclusion today rather firmly after going into the Optus shop and what I can get across the board for way less. With 6 dogs matches, I find it hard to justify the $600 a year when I don't watch the channel for 6 months or more. That's a $100 a game.

I had a look at this for you BT.

I can stream the AFL app to my smart TV using the screen mirroring function, but I dug out my wife's ipad and it looks like something gets blocked. I'd imagine it'll be Apple stopping you from doing something they can't make money from, but for anyone non-Apple it is doable.

Think you might be out of luck unless a Chromecast can circumvent it for you.

Thanks Ricky. So if if use a non-Apple lap top (which I have a new one) I'm a chance?

Yeah you should just be able to connect with an HDMI cable. That's assuming the live pass works on a laptop. What sort of TV do you have btw?

The I'd have to use is a smart tv. My main bigger TV is about 4 years old, which I don't think has much going for it with this stuff.

A VGA and a 3.5mm male-to-male cable would get the job done if your main TV doesn't have an HDMI input. Would run you up about $10 all up on ebay.

Otherwise your smart tv should have no issues. Or if it has the screen mirroring function (should be in the source list up the top but isn't available on all brands, Samsung it will be) then any Android device with the AFL app installed should be able to cast it to your smart tv if you want to go cable free.
