According to my Googlising, it is about the Polish Solidarity (trade unionism) movement. It began as a song from Bono to his wife, and later morphed into one about Lech Walesa and Solidarity.

Thanks mate. My kids have Polish heritage on my ex wife's side. I will point it out to them.

What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

It was a swipe at rampant capitalism and religious meddling / exploitation in the third world

It is. I heard what the inspiration for the song once was in an interview but I forget the details. Something like a book by Voltaire or Satre or something.

Leif Garrett. I Was Made For Dancing.....albeit not the intent of the 'artist' or the song...nonetheless I gained a lot of social awareness and perspective from the first time I saw him perform that on Countdown, and seeing how my older teenage sisters reacted..... That was my first insight into the true banality of evil

I remember them getting beer thrown all over them and booed off stage at the Barwon Club in Geelong in the late 90s. Great band but that particular pub was not the place to sell far left ideals.

Bad Religion did it better. By far my fav punk rock band.

I was there. I thought I remembered the name. It was one of those "can you blokes play a Stooges song" type situation.

I got banned from the milk bar across the road from my High School in year 7 for wearing a Bad Religion hoodie.
