    Foxtel Play

I have recently downsized and moved to a temporary apartment while my new building is completed (about a year). Today I tried to get Foxtel installed, but due to some problems, it is not going to happen.

An alternative is Foxtel Play, which is streamed through the internet. The only reason I want Foxtel is for the Footy. The only device that I can use for Foxtel Play HD is a Telstra TV.

    Question:

Does anyone use Foxtel Play? How good is the streaming and does it buffer much ( I know it depends on your ISP, but some streaming software is better than others eg: Netflix is great, SS on demand sucks)

    Any help/opinions is appreciated.

Is the AFL service still on the tiny screen?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I think you are talking about a different application. I am not sure what is happening with that. FDOTM was having trouble with it.

Cheers TAC - I am on those forums and have posted the same questions. I wanted to find out if any WOOFERs have been using Foxtel Play and what their experience was.

I was thinking of getting the Telstra TV, as apparently it is the only device streaming in HD

Far as I can tell you only get a few games to choose from. Maybe it changed since I tried last though.

Never found the quality of regular TV on it to be halfway decent so I doubt it'd be any good for the footy.

                Telstra probably is better

                    Re: Foxtel Play

Well received my Telstra TV media player and signed up with Foxtel Play for a two week trial. So far so good. Fox Footy is in HD, and I haven't had any issues with buffering.

Foxtel Play also have an anytime catch up feature with most of the games from this year available in Std Definition. I watched the Brisbane game today ( 2nd half) as I hadn't seen the replay.

Basic prices are reasonable but you can only have the sports channel if you sign up for one of the other packages. The minimum it will cost is $39 month with the sports included. This is much cheaper than getting a full blown Foxtel setup. One draw back is you can't record or link up a series.

Telstra TV also includes lots of other apps.

Also, you don't need to be with Telstra for your internet provider. to use the Telstra TV.

You will need a Telstra ID which you can get by joining one of their community forums.

Has anyone had any experience with the new Foxtel Now streaming service? Apparently they will stream AFL in HD so it may be a better (cheaper) option than the regular Foxtel subscription.

Anything combining "Foxtel" and "Streaming" makes me suspicious that it will run with some kind of mouse in a wheel technology, but has anyone tried it and if so how has it been?

If you see my post above, I have been using the service for almost a year. Foxtel Play became Foxtel Now. In the beginning it was a little bit dodgy, but they upgraded the App late last year and it is pretty stable now. However, it does depend on your internet connection.

I originally purchased the Telstra TV media player for $99, but sold it recently as Telstra made it harder and harder to use unless you had a direct internet connection with them. I sold it on Ebay for $75 and purchased the Foxtel Now Pod ($99) which is a lot more stable. Telstra TV also came out with a new version of their player.

During the summer, Foxtel have not been showing the footy in HD but we have been assured they will.

Pricing is still the same as per above, ie $29 for all sports channels, but you have to pick one other package, the lowest being $10.

The only draw back with the Foxtel Now Pod is it doesn't have the Netflix App if that is a concern. However, you can download all sorts of Apps from the Google Store and watch those as well.

If I was you, I would sign up for the trial period and see what you think. Foxtel Now App is also available on your browser and other devices.

PS: I recently purchased a device that can record from a stream and I have successfully recorded off the Foxtel Now stream.

Let me know if you have more questions
