I think it was an 8 man series that had the likes of Gene Myer, Johan Kriek and McEnroe in it.

Sadly it’s a bit of an eyesore these days and the only time it makes news is when some idiot drives through the constant flood after any amount of rain .

All magnificent concerts. Do we really need more nondescript apartment blocks that will be obsolete ghettos in 30 years? Our state govt certainly has a hard-on for stamp duty.

I think I've only been there once and it was Powderfinger, not sure of the year, maybe later than 2003.

Add Cypress Hill to the "list of good gigs I have seen at Festival Hall"

Very funny, very stoned, exquisitely talented musicians.

                  Just as you'd expect really.

Have you heard the Nick Cave cover of Disco2000? Great version but I consider Nick Cave to be godlike-to be honest I consider God to be Nick Cave like

Always has been. My cousins first job as a police officer was to go down and fish some bloke who'd got stuck there after som heavy rain years ago and he's been a copper, retired and started a business in the meantime, and he was told at the time "this is he last time this will happen, we are fixing it up next week."

Glad it's finally going. Horrible venue.

If we were to save a music venue then it should have been the Palace on Bourke st. That place was great. Festival Hall not so much.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I tend to agree, the place is rundown, acoustics are bad and the building isnot something architecturally asthetic. However, there are lts of memories going back 90 odd years.

A museum or dedicated part of the new building should be put up on the site as a memorial to a venue that saw some of the best acts in the world.

It would have been worth saving the old Palace on St Kilda, the new one (which was the Metro I think, had some interesting adventures there) not as much as the St Klida one.

Remember Festival Hall as much for big boxing events than music. Barry Michael versus Lester Ellis was a huge evening back in the mid eighties. The last music concert I can recall going to at Festival Hall was early Green Day.
