A Bakers' Cyst.

I've been dignosed with a bakers cyst in my leg. Has anyone had any experience with them? It's a bit like having a knife stuck in your leg and every now and then someone grabs it and gives it a real twist. It's agonising.

The doctor says that the conservative treatment is just to wait until it bursts of its own accord but it's alright for him to say that. He doesn't have to put up with the pain. Maybe if I go to the hospital they can burst it for me.

Anyway any advice on how to cope with the pain, or even getting my leg into a neutral position so it doesn't throb so much, would be appreciated.

Not me personally, but when mum was sick in hospital last year, that was one of the issues she was dealing with. Depending on your individual case, they can resolve themselves without treatment, they can be drained if big enough, cortisone can be given to reduce inflammation.

Yeah, I'm thinking of dragging myself to E&D in the morning. Around 8.30am is their quietest period according to my mum.

Yeah get that sucker lanced ASAP and then look after it to avoid infection. May need multiple lancings as it may build up again but just ask the doc how to do it yourself. Easy once they've made an incision. Keep it clean.

I had one behind my knee , it's basically fluid , I took anti inflammatries then started on Gluclausamine ( not how it's spelt ), it's a natural pill you can get from any supermarket , it rebuilds the cartlidge , I have had no problems since.

Cheers ledge. I have a bottle of those Glucathingys mum gave me when dad died saying "keep these because you are going to need them before long" Dear old mum, she's right nearly as many times as she thinks she is!

I had one back in 2006...had no idea and one day jumped off a ladder at work and I felt something burst behind my knee. Went to ER and was told a bakers cyst burst behind my knee cap. Was in a brace for 48 hours and off work for a week. God it was painful when it happened.

It's a special kind of pain isn't it? I used to play footy and cricket with broken bones and did all sorts of insane painful things when I was younger.

But this *!*!*!*!ing thing bought me to my knees. The doctor's first idea of "waiting until it burst by itself" got old pretty quickly so I tried to burst them myself with a hot pin and when that didn't work I went back and begged the doctor for "pain killers, *!*!*!*!ing strong pain killers" which he ended up giving me and they got me through to the stage where they burst organically.

Fun times, I have one in my right knee. Take some anti-inflammatories to get the swelling down and see your GP to start a medical plan. I have to start seeing a Physio soon because otherwise it'll keep coming back because the knee is structually weak

I had them in my knee and all down the outside of my left lower left leg. They've all gone now thank god.
