    Virtual pinball

Well I am 61 and my teenage life was very much filled in with pinball machines . Yes the amusement parlour at Footscray station and the bowling alley .
Over the years I have had two of my own . Flash 1979 and Last action hero .
They weren’t cheap and the maintenance on them was an ongoing problem .
So I have just invested in a Vpin which has 1300 games , all the old ones . I couldn’t find one in Victoria to look at live so I investigated through YouTube and phone calls.
I am told by some they are better than real ones in a lot of aspects but I guess nothing beats real depending on your age and nostalgic memories .
Has anyone had an experience with a Virtual pinball and what’s the thoughts ?
Keep in mind I have bought the latest so it has all the solenoids and knockers etc . I’m really looking forward to reliving my childhood memories when it comes in about a month .

Not familiar with virtual pinball. I’m guessing they’ll have the physics and sounds down pat but the tactile side of things will be what’s missing.

Have you read Murakami’s short novel Pinball? Main character is obsessed with pinball. It’s part of a trilogy but each stands alone ok. Follow up book Wild Sheep Chase is fun too.
    Josie :)

    Our day will come
    And we'll have everything.
    We'll share the joy
    Just like '54 again.

I also love magical realism, jazz bars and awkwardly written sex scenes. Where do I sign up?

Apologies Ledge, it’s only taken 2 posts for this thread to get derailed.

Have I created a record ? 2 posts and it’s already moved off it.
Now let me try and bring it back . IiRC there was two movies about pinball machines one was the well known Tommy which we know Elton John had something to do with but I vaguely remember an Australian one back in the 80s that was quite popular. Will try and chase it up.
Depending on how you look at it , space invaders changed the whole gaming industry, people can say it killed pinball but I actually think it made pinball popular again for a while as gaming was reintroduced to kids of the 80s in fish n chip shops etc
