Footscray fire sends toxic smoke into Melbourne's western suburbs

Hope all woofers in the area are ok. There was a photo on WB twitter from Whitten Oval with the fire seen not too far away.

We are inside the 500 metre perimeter but we will be fine. The prevailing wind is taking it more toward Altona but the rain has just started and the firies said that might be a problem and if we start to smell nail polish get the *!*!*!*! out of Dodge. There's only one problem with that. I have no sense of smell. It's an advantage in my work (I work in aged care and I wipe a lot of arses) but a pain everywhere else.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Just heard another explosion and there is a new plume of black smoke when they had stopped for a while. That can't be good.

But I'm watching the Caribbean Premier League. Come on the Tallawahs!

Seaholme Primary School in Altona has been closed by the Fire Brigade evacuated due to poor air quality. They are off to Altona PS next. Mrs Flamethrower was working at Seaholme today.

This is the western suburbs we never get the A-graders but I wouldn't blame the MFB if they only sent the firefighters they can afford to lose

I loved how they closed the catholic schools but the government schools just ploughed on as if nothing had happened. The mickey drippin's are such wimps!

Every time I start daydreaming about a sea change down to Anglesea and transferring to the Western District some warehouse periodically reminds me to stay put.

This ain't Anglesea. Nobody has ever come to Footscray for a sea change. All we do for out of towners is heroin and carjackings!

Is there some sort of control of the fire. I think it's still going. All inner western suburbs residents stay indoors if you have respiratory issues etc until it's safe again.

Due to the depth and fuel load the fire brigade is having trouble getting water/foam to it. So it's officially classified as "not yet under control", but it is contained.

                              That is something at least.
