Let's GO (So we can get back)

Hey - Anyone reading this Jeff Tweedy Auto-bio?

Most entertaining bio ever from the least likely source.

    Genuinely funny. Honest. Interesting...

    It's just an awesome book.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I've dropped the hint for christmas. So likely will be reading it after then. His interview with Maron is worth the time.
He's a funny guy, some of his stage banter is hilarious.

I've only seen him once and I have to say I must have got him on a bad night...'Hilarious' is not how I would have described him...show was OK but have to admit to being pretty disappointed and as a result haven't made the effort to see them again.

The effort he (and the publishers) have gone too in order to make this book fun and readable is actually quite extraordinary. In yesterday's readings I found a mini- comic strip he had drawn up to detail the start of his relationship with his wife...it is just cool.

Good on you guys waiting for Christmas. I just click the 'deliver to kindle' button on Amazon and, hey presto, there it is 4.3 seconds later.

I've never seen Jeff perform solo, but I've seen Wilco several times and have never been left disappointed. Having said that all the shows I've seen were post-Jeff's recovery from substance abuse. He was very enaging with the crowd and musically they were at the peak of their game.

I like the tactile feel of a book, hence I'm willing to wait...plus it gave my wife an opportunity to end her search for my Xmas gift relatively early in the season.

Is he the guy who used to play in the band that released a couple of CDs with Billy Bragg? Was it called Wilco?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yep, Wilco. They were involved in the Mermaid Avenue sessions with a Billy Bragg (which was putting a whole bunch of Woodie Guthrie stuff together- I believe it was all unheard and found and passed on by his daughter or something).

The first time I was due to see Wilco was at Coachella and it wasn’t till I was lining up that I received the set times and realised they’d been removed- Tweedy had just checked into rehab. Beck was a last minute call up though, so not a bad result. I have seen them a bunch of times since and they have been brilliant. Will definitely be grabbing the book.

I'm a big fan of the Guthrie family. More of an Arlo man myself but Woodie will do anyday.

Talking about late replacements. After black Saturday they had a fund raiser at the Myer Music Bowl. The lineup was headed by none other than Willie Nelson and included a few more I was interested in (Daddy Cool reformed and a few more) but Willie was the man I was really excited about. I paid my 60 bucks and went along by myself (my punk mates aren't exactly country music fans-if it had been Cosmic Psychos and Arm the Insane playing they would have camped out for it)

Anyway eventually it comes for Willie to come out. But Michael *!*!*!*!ing Chubb walks out on stage and says "bad news guys. Willie Nelson is quite ill and couldn't make it to Australia in time (I heard later he had some trouble at customs with some vegetation he wanted to leave the USA with but customs weren't all that keen on him taking it out of the country) but please put your hands together for a true legend who has very kindly made time to play, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR JOHN FARNHAM!!!!"

I almost vomited. I have never been as disappointed as I was at that particular moment of my life. John *!*!*!*!img Farmhand? With his Sadie The singing *!*!*!*!img lady? For *!*!*!*!s sake! We couldn't have had Slim Dusty or even Adam Brand? And it was a benefit so I couldn't exactly complain and demand my money back.

                *!*!*!*!img Farnham.

It’s more about making sure I get a Christmas present I like. Also still on the tactile paper version.
One of my all time favourite stage banter moments came from a Wilco gig in Chicago in 1998.
If you watch some of his solo live stuff, he’s always engaged and funny.

Got this for Christmas, finished it today.

Interested mjp, when did you see Wilco? The line-up they’ve had for the last 10 years is fairly blazing on stage. Nels Cline is an absolute monster guitarist and Kotche is a beautiful drummer.
I saw them at the Palais around Sky Blue SkY and was slightly disappointed but subsequently they’ve been a total joy

Back in 2006 or 2007. It was in Dallas (well, I think it was actually in Fort Worth to be truthful but those two cities joined long, long ago.

Have had a few chances since but haven't bothered due to that show...

Just a heads up- Jeff Tweedy is touring in May and will apparently be playing music from across all projects (including Uncle Tupelo and Wilco).

Monday 20 May – The Metro, Sydney
Wednesday 22 May – Brisbane Powerhouse
Friday 24 May – Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday 25 May – Meeniyan Town Hall
Tuesday 28 May – The Gov, Adelaide
