Must confess I don't know Vampire Weekend but they really like naming their songs after people, don't they!

Just thought of a few more BIG ones.

      Rhiannon. Fleetwood Mac
      Rosalie. Thin Lizzy
      Rosalita. Bruce Springsteen

And the epic. Mandy. Barry Manilow.

And perhaps one that might even be my favourite.

January, by Pilot (they used January as a girls name)
Just an absolute flawless slice of British Pop.
Incredibly layered, orchestral guitar lines. Perfect pop melody.
Dripping with hooks and a knock out 'get your attention immediately on AM radio'' power riff to wrap the whole bundle of jangly sweetness around.
Spent what seemed like months at No1 on the charts.

      Pop perfection.

        Daniel - Elton John
        Ben - Michael Jackson
        St Jimmy - Green Day
        Danny Boy

Strictly these probably don't meet the OP criteria, but:

        Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield
Stacy's Mom - Fountains of Wayne
A Boy Named Sue - Johnny Cash
        Adam's Song - Blink 182
The Ghost of Tom Joad - Bruce Springsteen

          Veronica - Elvis Costello
          Rosanna - Toto
          Pamela - Toto
Maybellene - Chuck Berry (or it's country precursor, Ida Red!)
Kaw-Liga - Hank Williams (I have very broad taste in music!)
          Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley

A few that have been mentioned like Carol by Peep Tempel, Bob by DBT and Alison by Elvis Costello.
A few other faves that may or may not have come up.

Gloria - Laura Brannigan...….check this out, she looks like she barracks for Collingwood.

Seriously though, this tune means a lot to me. When I was a lad sitting in my high-rider in the back of my mum's corolla this tune was prevalent. Such a strong and beautiful voice, she shouldn't have gone into obscurity like she did, and she didn't deserve to be cut down like she was.

                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Sylvia - Pulp...…..Jarvis Cocker could get way with shit lyrics and Pulp were too good instrumentally to not get away with epic axe solos...

And another vote for Ada by the National.

If either of our pups were girls, they would have been Ada. Except, I've since discovered there are about a squillion of them under 5 years old kicking around our neighbourhood.
