    RIP Damien Lovelock

    Celebite Rifles singer Damien Lovelock has died from cancer. The Rifles are one of the best live bands I have seen, so incredibly in tune with one another that chord changes just didn't seem to exist.

    Damien Lovelock was the charismatic lead singer of one of Australia's great live rock bands and the man who taught Ryoho yoga to the NSW State of Origin rugby league team, writes Steve Cannane.


    Singer, Poet, Yogi, Soccer Expert (sort of) Damo was a legend and in an industry where there are a lot of wankers Damien Lovelock stood out as a diamond guy. RIP Damo-and thoughts to all his friends.
    They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

      Well said. Pretty sure he wrote a couple of books as well...loved the rifles.
      What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

          I'd forgotten but he also co-hosted a couple of superbowls on SBS back in the day before they worked out there was actually a market for it. He knew nothing about NFL (or he knew less than I did anyway) but that (going on national TV to talk about a topic he knew very little about) never seemed to bother Damo.


          I can remember we were listening to RRR one day at work back in the '90s and they were interviewing Damien about a block of gigs that the Rifles had coming up at the POW. After talking for an hour or so about the band name (its a play on Sex Pistols), how he came to join the band and a party he went to in Maroubra in 1979 the interviewer (Stratos I think it was) asked him if he had anything else to say. Damo said "I don't think so" and the interviewer promptede him and he said "Oh yeah! If there are any drummers listening we are having a rehearsal this afternoon and it's going to be a perfect opportunity to audition a new drummer because our drummer has left the band"

          Yep, that's right. They had a three night residency starting that night and they didn't actually have a drummer lined up. From memory they got either Bill Walsh from Cosmic Psychos or Colin Buckler from Painter and Dockers to fill in.
          They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

              Probably the only reason he went on rrr to say they need a drummer...
              More of an In Bruges guy?

                      Oh no. I loved Damo and the Rifles. Saw them many times (but not nearly enough). Was going through their back catalogue the other day and had them on high rotation - the turgid miasma of existence; Roman beach party and blind ear in particular. I was really looking forward to seeing them again.

                      TBH I am gutted by this news. Not that I ever met him apart from a very brief chat after once of his gigs several years ago but he seemed like such a likeable fellow. I also really enjoyed his analysis of the round ball game.

                      RIP Damo we will miss you.

                          Wow, i wasn't even aware that he was unwell. Always came across as a decent human being. Hope Southampton have a big season for him.
