A sad shame. A great rural voice in politics (leader on Nat's & Deputy PM) and after politics. I personally think the Nat's have never recovered from his retirement. One of the most decent men we've seen.

Quite young , did I hear he was fighting it for ten years ? Only seems like yesterday he was around.
Yep, he was diagnosed ten years ago. It's one of the reasons he left parliament-he had resigned as deputy PM some time before he left the parliament. The other was the birth of a son with autism, I admired Fischer's priorities because most politicians wouldn't have given up their career to look after a child.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
