Oh man. I went to see Mentals at the Venue in St Kilda back in the 80s. We were standing in front of Greedy's keyboard when Martin Plaza opened a door to walk on stage and the whole front three rows got a contact high from all the dope smoke that came out from behind the door. I've never seen so much blue smoke in my life.
RIP you funny man.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
I can remember when that song was first released and Lee Simon on Sounds Unlimited asked Greedy what the song title was referring to (Everyone thought that it might have been a slightly rascist reference to the Japenese.
Greedy pulled a flask out of his shirt pocket and took a small drink out of it and said "That wss a nip", And then he took a bigger gulp out of the flask. and said "and that nip has gotten bigger" Lee Simon just nodded his head and said "Mmmmmmm"

Lee Simon hosted Nightmoves. Donnie Sutherland hosted Sounds Unlimited. Both classic shows.
Bit of a shock with Greedy. Martin Plaza with his illness would have been tipped to go first. Still got my copy of their debut lp 'Get Wet'(1980). Gonna stick it on the turntable tonight. Here's to you Greedy.

Right you are. It was Nightmoves that I was thinking of. I can still remember Lee Simon's hair bobbling as he nodded.

There are some great songs on Get Wet. Possible Theme For A Future TV Drama Series, Egypt, Talk To Baby Jesus, Can I Come Home?, Spanish Gardener and my favorite Mentals song of all time-Another Man's Sitting In My Kitchen.

The Mentals “Creatures of Leisure” was the first cassette I was allowed to buy for myself in about 1983 (I was 8).
My old man also worked on a tour with them around the time of Live It Up. He organised to get a signed poster and cassette sent to me. When the post tube arrived, the poster was in there, but someone at Australia Post had helped themselves to the cassette.
Anyway, Vale Greedy & thanks.
Park that car
Drop that phone
Sleep on the floor
Dream about me
