With a few exceptions I'm not big on American pop culture but I love British music. My youth was fueled by the lyrics of Pete Shelley and Johnny Rotten. So:
Buzzcocks; Pete Shelley could capture the emotional feeling that lived in your head with four beats like nobody's business
The Sex Pistols: Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? Some of the early biogs of the SPs were brilliant.
The Housemartins. The thinking person's version of the Smiths
The Smiths; More moany version of the Housemartins
The Rolling Stones; They pretty much invented rock stardom
The Who; They had Keith Moon
Blur; Then at least Jeemak will vote in my poll
Joy Division; Not many better songs than Love Will Tear Us Apart.
The Jam; Paul Weller was in them, nuff said.
The Clash; Are you a Clash or a Sex Pistols fan? Both.
