The Beatles are the greatest band ever in world.
No one diversified so much over such a short time, no matter your age you felt you belonged to one of the songs they wrote.
Example the song “in my life” it was written when they were young, how kids could relate to age love and freindship like 70 year olds was incredible.
They also all went on to create successful music when they split. 4 single great musicians who came together as a band.
Besides them you would have to include the Rolling Stones their longevity is just amazing.
The UK create the best in music and comedy in my opinion.

To me the Beatles were a POP band, the Stones are way ahead of them - especially musically.

Radiohead for mine.

I'd be surprised if there were even two albums total released by the above mentioned bands in my music lifetime (2000ish onwards).

Pink Floyd's the best of the older crew imo.

I was in Richmond one night and the cops have pulled me and my two mates over. Buzzcocks had just played at the Corner. The cop sitting on the passenger side dared to say to us "have you boys been smoking dope?" One of my mates nails him with a glare that said "Don't you dare *!*!*!*! with me" and says "Do we look like long haired, filthy, dope smoking, *!*!*!*!ING HIPPIES to you?" Start your wagon up and *!*!*!*! OFF or I will have you!!!!


Coppers couldn't get out of there quickly enough-it went from fun to danger for those boys toot sweet.

I also enjoyed the New wave era, from the late 70s to early 80s. It all started in Manchester and was also dubbed as post-punk.

Bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wire, Magazine, Public Image Ltd, Joy Division, ( later to become New order) Gang of Four, the Fall, The Cure, the Psychedelic Furs and many many more bands that came and went quite quickly

My vote is for the Stones. Longevity is a huge plus. Have watched their concert in Havana a couple of times on Foxtel recently. How do these 70 plus year old dudes do it? It blows my mind each time I see them. Mick dances like a teenager!

Does longevity count if you don’t put out a good album for 35 years?
Don’t get me wrong, I love periods of the Stones and they’re reportedly still a great live act, but it’s not like they’ve been creatively strong since the late 70’s.
Anyway the concept of music or art as a competition is inherently daft.
