12. While my Guitar Gently Weeps. Another progression in Harrison's songwriting skills. Eric Clapton's inclusion on the track is reflective of how pissed off Harrison was becoming with John and Paul not engaging with his material in the studio. As an aside, it was hearing Prince's blistering cover of this recently that forced me to reevaluate just how great a guitarist he was.

Yeah a friend, knowing I loved The Beatles sent me the Youtube clip, and I opened it expecting to be "Meh".. and my jaw dropped. I just had no idea he was that good a lead player.Comment

Re: Geatest Brirish band of all time
Tough to argue against the Beatles or the Stones as the geatest British bands. They’re imprint on music overall is impossible to top even though I wouldn’t vote for either as the best. I’d listen to the Kinks way more than either of them for sure.Park that car

Any love for Dire Straits ? I'm a massive fan of Mark Knopfler's work being a Geordie boy, and a lefty that plays right handed like myself.
Going home the theme from local hero is played before Newcastle United matches.
Brothers in arms one of my all time favorite tracks.BT COME BACK!

Mark Knopfler is an A grade guitar player. Really admire his Chet Atkins style finger picking. Only until very recently did I start to learn how to play with a pick. On the one hand using my fingers helped me, but I also always felt it limited my lead, as I could never get the speed that finger pickers like Knopfler or Robbie Krieger could get with their fingers.Comment

I'm also a lefty who learned to play guitar right handed.

There's a good video on YouTube where he speaks about his style it's brilliant. The riff in why aye man for example so hard to get that speed. Thats what separates them from us mere mortals

So true he has amazing ability in that pick hand that is so hard to emulate with your non dominant.

Thanks for sharing that clip!

The first 4 minutes of that YT clip is as a close to perfect as you can get to illustrating how someone can fall in love with learning and progressing on the guitar. He really shows move by move how each new concept resonated and spurred him in to even more desire to learn.
I'm quite a decent finger picker, but am missing that core ingredient of having an independent thumb.
I've spent the last 12 months focussing on things I'm not good at on the guitar, and being okay with being shit again, like I was when I first started, so that's my next frontier; learning independent thumb movement, and to hell with my family who have to put up with the weeks of awfulness til I get it!Comment

I'm a NUFC man, and I love the tune. Brothers in Arms is and always will be my post all night bender tune to put me to bed. Perfect at 2pm.
Knopfler's skills are second to none in my view. He's not a massive cords man, rather, he makes every string seem important.
My favourite of their's is Where Do You Think You're Going. It has their signature sound, and the perfect combination of percussion and an amazing change up with beautiful guitar work to bring it home on the four and six strings.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment
