    Kobe Bryant RIP

Being reported that NBA legend Kobe Bryant has died in a tragic helicopter accident

Former Los Angeles Lakers star, Kobe Bryant, has reportedly died in a helicopter crash on Sunday (AEDT), along with four others.

Bryant, 41, was travelling in his private helicopter in Calabasas, per TMZ, when a fire broke out. Emergency personnel responded, but nobody on board survived.

According to TMZ, Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, was not on board.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski: “Kobe Bryant is among those dead in a helicopter crash outside Los Angeles, a source confirms.”

    Authorities confirmed five people died.

Bryant, a father to four daughters, was the 13th pick in the 1996 NBA Draft, and spent 20 seasons with the Lakers, before retiring in 2016.

The Lakers retired both his No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys to honour what is widely considered one of the greatest careers in NBA history.

      Awful news.

It's a wonder it doesn't happen more often though. I remember watching George Costanza crunch the numbers on Seinfeld and thinking "He's right!"
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It's affected the EPL a bit, we lost Matthew Harding while Leicester lost their owner a season back.

I'd forgotten that- and there was Emiliano Sala crashed on his way to Cardiff and there was the Munich crash too. There was the Argentine ice hockey (I think it was ice hockey) team that crashed on the mountain as well.

The USSR ice hockey team's plane crashed and burned on take off in the early '50s Vasily Stalin (Joe's son) forced them to take off in terrible weather conditions and was terrified that his dad would find out and the shit wold hit the fan but luckily (for Vasily) Uncle Joe died before he found out.

Bryant is largely regarded as a top 10 of all time talent and was a most competitive player.

Some great respect by NBA teams. Some paid respect with a minute silence and players writing on their shoes. The best, I think, has been playing teams who agreed between themselves whomever won the tip off would cross into their half and stand still with all other players and let the shot clock count down from 24 seconds (24 his main number). With a standing ovation across the benches and entire stadium on the shot clock buzzer. I've not seen something as original as well as impactful and respectful. The footage does it more justice.

I know nothing about him or his sport, so I googled him.

Seems like he was an amazing player, but has a dark past, especially for the victim.

Most tributes seem to forget this. His victim won't.

I think it's a bit like Michael Jackson, some people won't acknowledge the indiscretions, some will only see them. Others will take a balanced view, and mostly the victim will remain silent until they eventually talk and get accused of ripping on a dead person without that dead person being able to defend themselves.

Society's views towards consent have drastically changed since the early 2000s and if what happened then happened today, things would be incredibly different for Bryant. Either way it makes no difference to him now.
