27th May - Free Tix to Hold Steady @ Croxton

    Hey Team,

So - I have tix to Rock'n'Roll church on May 27th - AKA The Hold Steady show at the Croxton Ballroon. I purchased these pre-pandemic and had always intended to travel to come and see the show but what can I tell you...I'm not going to make it. I have regrets (many) about this decision but quite literally cannot fly to Melbourne for the show..if I could, well, I would. But I just can't.

The tix have sticker prices of $74.90 but I don't want anything for them...I want a Woofer to have them...

All you need to do to get them is tell me what your fave HS album is and where you were when you first heard it. FWIW the show I have tickets for is a 'Celebration' of the Boys and Girls in America album...

For the record, my favorite HS album is the first one ('Almost Killed Me') which I purchased at a dodgey record store in Canberra when I was back doing IT consulting for DIMIA. Somehow I didn't listen to it for a few months tho - no idea why - I ripped it only my iPOD (RIP) and first listened to it running on a treadmill in Leeds at around 5am on a day when I saw/felt 'sleet' for the first time in my life...unfortunately another work trip (this time consulting for GE Money). Anyway, that has turned into a life changing purchase as I doubt a week goes bye without listening to a little bit of Craig and the boys and for the last two years The HS have been high on my 'Spotify Wrapped' collection...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

If I didn't already have tickets for all 3 shows I'd take it

On the upside, if someone were to get these tickets to the gig, you might run into me
    Park that car
    Drop that phone
    Sleep on the floor
    Dream about me

Hope you managed to find someone Mike. It’s nearly time to explode.

Was a cracking night, briiliant vibe in the room, got to catch up with some friends I don’t see often enough.
And if you were expecting Boys and Girls in album order, well, that was quickly dispelled when they opened the gig with Constructive Summer. Set was a pretty solid mix of old and new with the B&GIA songs sprinkled throughout. A couple of deep cuts, Girls Like Status and Arms & Hearts showed up.

            Even more jealous.

It's funny you say 'Status' is a deep cut tho - I think they like playing that one...it appeared on the Stay Positive concert album as well.

Deep cut may have been the wrong term, probably more an unexpected B Side.

That was the first night, 2nd night was Stay Positive with Cheyenne Sunrise and Ask Her For Adderall getting a run amongst a slightly different mix of songs from the first 2 albums and ODP.
3rd night at the Corner was a cracker, smaller venue, nicer sound, opened with Positive Jam and hit a few gems like Knuckles and Hornets Hornets. Enjoyed hearing We Can Get Together

Now that's a bit more of a deep cut.

It's funny you mention Hornets...for some reason I've never really vibed with that album (2nd one) - I hardly ever put it on. Most 'fans' have 'Separation Sunday' as their #1 but I kinda don't 'get it'.

I swing between the first 3 for favourite depending on my mood. And I definitely get Sep Sunday. I’ve spent much quality time with that one. Unsurprisingly nothing from Teeth Dreams made it to any of the sets.
Would have loved Hot Fries or You Gotta Dance as early extras that still sometimes get played but neither appeared.
Anyway glad I made the effort to go to all 3 nights. Took it out of me though.
