30 years since Kurt Cobain passed away

Amazing how time flies. If you were a teen in the mid 80s to 90s like i was im guessing this guy had a profound effect.

Growing up in a world of jocks and sports, and not completely fitting into that space Kurt was the first guy that made it ok to be a little different.

Shame the way it ended but we have plenty of material to reminisce with...

This song Negative Creep was one of the first i heard of theirs (my cool friend had bleach on tape and mud honey, pixies etc) and it really hit me.

Kris' bass is under rated you can really hear it in this mix from Live at the Paramount.

One of those moments you dont forget where you were or what you were doing.

I was a 17 year old stoner who loved Grunge so it really did feel like a death in the family. Still flog the same CDs from back then now.

Yep. Still very strong on my current and ongoing playlist.

Yeah I was heavily influenced, at the time, by Nirvana and Cobain in particular...in both the music I wrote and played in bands at the time..
I have to say, whilst I still get a nostalgia kick out of it.. I am not as excited by the music as much anymore. My tastes evolved very quickly and it really was only for a 5 year period that Nirvana and the whole grungey sound influenced me...and yet to many of my friends who knew me then and now.. whenever we get together and the guitars come out, they are surprised (and I think disappointed too) when what I play is nowhere near like what I played 30 years ago... To me it was a small period of time that I was influenced by it, but to others who know me I seem to be defined by my tastes then.

Similar story - they were like a gateway drug for me.

Probably took me longer to move on (10 years). I got into bands before my time like Zeppelin, Cream etc that whole british wave, then lots of blues stuff.

My son is 32 been playing in pubs etc since he was 16 , still going now, sadly the Bendigo closed last week , he played the last gig there last week:
I take pride in the fact his favourites are 70s Zeppelin etc he respected Kurt’s music but it wasn’t something that really grabbed him.

I really don't care much for the title of this thread.

Definitely defined my tastes in music and what I thought/think is 'cool' (well Cobain on his own there). Love this thread.

Nirvana live at the Palace, Melbourne, 1992

It?s 30 years since the death of Kurt Cobain.

We?re marking this anniversary by bringing you one of the most treasured recordings in the triple j live music archive.

When Nirvana hit our shores in 1992, they were the biggest band in the world.

Nevermind had been released just a few months prior and catapulted the Seattle trio into superstardom.

They played the first ever Big Day Out in Sydney as well as a bunch of small club shows around the country and the triple j live music team recorded this performance at the Palace in Melbourne.

It?s one of the most anticipated and intense live music experiences Australia has ever seen: the show everyone wishes they?d got to see, and that nobody who went will ever forget.

It turned out to be the only Australian tour they ever did.

Recorded by: Phil McKellar & Chris Thompson

                            Mixed by: Phil McKellar

                            Track list:

                            About A Girl
                            Come As You Are
                            Lithium
                            Breed
                            Polly
                            Lounge Act
                            Negative Creep
                            Love Buzz
                            Blew

More of an In Bruges guy?
