Your Foxtel should be fine UNLESS you recently upgraded to the IQ from standard box, then a tech will have to come out and replace a certain cable to align with the new Foxtel antenna, but from what you are saying, that probably isn't the case as you should have most Foxtel channels going anyway.

I had similar frustrations yesterday by purchasing a Wii, and there's a little curser that you use with the cordless remote to select things on screen, and that curser hardly appeared or when it did, kept going nuts, a bit of hair pulling & googling found that i had switched the unit on before plugging in a sensor bar that sits on your tv, you have to plug it in BEFORE turning it on for the first time......6 hours of hair pulling, kicking the cat etc etc and 1 minute of reading the problem on someone's blog & fixing it up!!!!!!

But i just knocked out some big dude in the 3rd round on Wii sports, so that kind of made up for it.
Thanks MW, I connected an indoor antenna, and voila! 15 digital channels on my new telly! Only have standard Foxtel, and that seems OK. Now for the VCR/DVD player...

Had to laugh at your Wii difficulties - been there, done that!

I wonder if any of you clever folk can assist - I bought a DVD recorder, and managed to get it going on my new LCD TV... how can I get Foxtel through the DVD recorder (guy in JB Hi-Fi assured me I could!) so I can record shows? I have standard Foxtel (not IQ)... I plugged the red/white/yellow leads connected to the Fox unit into the corresponding inputs on the DVD recorder. The AV channels show "no signal"... Getting frustrated, where did I go wrong?

We have a similar setup. Are you pressing the TV's TV/AV's button or the recorder's TV/AV button. Out TV has TV, SVGA, AV 1, 2, 3 etc but our recorder (AV1) can change to AV1, 2 Prg-1 etc in the box. So basically try the TV/AV button on your recorder remote if you haven't/can.

Only other thing i could think of is whether your foxtel is pluged in to the DVD recorders output instead of input.

If you've tried all this i apologize for underestimating your tech-savyness.

Thanks hujsh... the AV reference was from the recorder's remote. I think I'm gonna attack it again in the morning, with a clearer head (good thing I'm on holidays!), it'll probably be something really simple...

Funny thing is, I'm not bad with computers, but hopeless with audiovisual stuff...

Any luck AP6? I had to install a digital set top box at my in-laws over Christmas, couldn't get it going until I stuffed around with the AV setting on the VCR it was plugged in to and not just on the TV, which is what hujsh suggested
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

nope, not as yet... gave myself most of today off! The user manual says it is "not designed for the reception of regular digital cable TV". Yet I've read online where others have run Foxtel through it. I'm about to pull everything out and try again

                      haha... good one.

I know plenty, but they'd have a heart attack if I lobbed on their doorstep at this stage of the year!

                      This is really bugging me.

So you have the basic video / audio cable? Yellow [video] Red/White [Audio]?

It should be straight forward as plugging that straight into one of the inputs on the back of the recorder, you might have one at the front as well that you can pop open.

So plug into one of the inputs, if input 1 is free, use that, then, on your remote, press channel up or down to get to the input 1 channel on the screen, where your Foxtel signal should be.

I shouldn't be on the computer on NYE (as you can tell I'm not out!) just wanted to thank all for your patience... I worked out the set up of my DVDrecorder to my TV... feel very stupid at my incompetence, but thanks MW, and others for your assistance... looking forward to recording many Dogs wins in 2010...

That, and the fact I had one set of plugs from Foxtel going into the DVD rec. and one going into the TV, when both sets should have gone into the recorder. My stupidity astounds me! It only took me two days!
