    Any Brian Eno fans here?

The Vivid light festival has just finished in Sydney, curated by Brian Eno.

Good stuff, like projecting trippy images on the sails of the Opera House. An aside - this is a tough city to live in with lots of problems but gee its beautiful around the harbour. I'm lucky - I live in a small rathole but I can walk to the harbour in 10 minutes and I'm close to the city for a quick drive and a fabulous water walk taking in the Opera House, harbour, the Harbour Bridge and The Rocks.

I am celebrating a birthday milestone year, and a couple of generous well heeled friends gave me two great birthday presents - one shouted me to see the David Byrne concert earlier this year, and tonight another took me to an Eno concert at the Opera House.

Very interesting sound landscapes - some extraordinary pieces. I shall always remember this birthday - seeing my two heroes Eno and Byrne live!

A great way to celebrate turning 21.......

I read a book called Authenticity by Danny Boyle a few years back with this awesome little passage attributed to Eno:

"According to Brian Eno, carnival is the key to real culture. When spectators become part of the proceedings themselves, then the event takes on an authenticity it didn’t previously have. Carnival is good when it leaves the people with the feeling that life in all its bizarre manifestations is unbeatably lovely and touching and funny and worthwhile.”

Really challenged the way I view things regarding sport as enterprise, the role of fans and the value of grassroots anything.

Ahhh Brian Eno, I think I have already mentioned to you previously DR that on one of my first trips to Europe in 1987 - a couple of friends and I were partying on the Greek Isles and we met Brian and his entourage and went to one of his parties. Nice bloke and very down to earth, I remember he had just produced U2's Joshua Tree albumn and was taking a well earnt rest on the isle of Mykonos.

Would have been good to see his 'chemical experiment' as he calls it...and many good wishes to you in your milestone year.....75 isn't it?

I am a very big fan of his production work, would be very interesting to see him working along side the Talking head himself.....

As a big U2 fan, my favoutite albums are ones which Eno has worked on, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and their latest masterpiece No Line On The Horizon which really stacks up against their best.

Eno just takes things in a completely different ditection, yet compliments the band extremely well with his experimental approach.

Worst song on the album, but most commercial, if you know what i mean.
