Best Cop TV Show Ever

For me my top 3 would be:

1) Homicide: Life on the street
2) The Shield
3) NYPD Blue (Jimmy Smits time)


I must admit to never watching 'the bill' and never being able to get into Australian cop shows. They don't seem to pack enough punch when you have been a serving member.

I loved Sipowitz. Anyone that can wear a tie with a short sleave shirt deserves my respect.

Up until I started watching The Wire, the Shield was a clear first but now The Shield isn't even in the same league as The Wire - IMO. The Shield has lost its way after season 5. Still to watch season 6 and not sure if 7 is out yet.
Also I'm too young to have seen the Bill, Homicide life on the street, hill street blues, early NYPD.



1) The Wire: By far. It’s a quality TV show. It focuses on all walks of life from the rich to the poor, the drug addicted, the drug sellers and runners, the education system, the politics to the wharf’s and of course Baltimore’s finest "The Police".
The best thing about it is it focuses equally on all characters in the show and you get to know them and understand them from their point of view.

Top thread idea-I've been a huge fan of cops shows since I was a kid and uised to watch Division 4 and Homocide(the Australian one back in the '70s, not Life On The Street)


1/ The Bill-Havent missed an episode for over 15 years, love it again after it went a bit stupid.

2/ The Shield-Fantastic adrenaline ride. Great characters, great plots.

3/ Taggart-Gritty, realistic all about the crime.

Stiff to miss out; Law and Order franchises.
