The hottest band in the world - KISS

You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world - KISSSSSSSSSSSS

Those are the words used to start off every Kiss concert, going all the way back to the early 70's, after breaking up the band Wicked Lester onto forming Kiss and the rest is Kisstory.

I remember being a kid and having posters planted all over the bedroom walls, ceiling, there was not one bit of wall showing, just a massive sea of colour, used to own all the records, finally seeing them play live here in Melbourne during the Farewell Tour in 2001 at Rod Laver.

I jumped ship when the make up came off, the 70's were definatly most favourite Kiss era, and after quite some time, went and bought up on most of the cd's and recently purchased their Kisstory DVD box sets full of concerts & tv performances and own a shite load of bootlegs.

Are you a fan? you can't stand them?

    Fan!

Never wore the make-up or anything like that though. Great music, great act. I loved the Kiss Symphony concert.

To be honest though, their F1 concert was below par and showed it would be best they stay retired. But that's why we have CD's and DVD's of the glory days.

Alot of people say Kiss were just make up, lights, the whole razzamatazz rather than a serious group therefor their music sucked, but as a fan myself, they made some seriously good music, and perhaps some of their lesser known songs are amongst their best - Deuce, Strutter, Black Diamond, Love Gun, Mr Speed, Take Me etc.

Had Dynasty on tape and Unmasked on vinyl, but without a doubt "Alive II" had to be one of the greatest live albums of all time.

Still hold a grudge towards my parents for not getting me a ticket to VFL Park in '80 or '81.

As a kid, my brothers and I bought face painting kits to emulate them... not a massive fan, but don't mind some of their earlier work... Lost me with "God Gave Rock and Roll to You"...

Bit of fun. I only really got into them just after the symphony concert, which at 16, was incidentally the same age my father was into them.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Ahh well where do i start. Yep KISS is MY LIFE!!!

Been a fan for 30 years (37 now)...have seen the band live 13 times and met them backstage in 2004 at rod laver, greatest experience of my life. Never forget it. At 1 stage i had a $30,000 KISS collection with my bro, but have sold most of it to fund U.S trips.

Paul Stanley is like a GOD to me. If i sound like one of those obsessed fans, then yeah i guess i am I made it onto the "Kiss rock the nation" dvd in the meet and greet segment, giving paul an airbrushed
                  tee which was cool.

Looking fwd to the new cd in sept/oct which i'm sure will kick some serious ass.

I could go on forever about this band, but wont
I will never see #16 the same!!

Wow, thats HUGE, puts my bedroom walls planted with posters to shame.

I'll have to suss out the meet & greet on the dvd, i do remember watching it a while ago and seeing an Aussie guy giving the band a t-shirt, so that was you.......cool.

What sorts of memorabilia did you have, and what do you still have today?

                      Which "Farewell Tour" was in 2001? 1st, 2nd 3rd????

Saw them without makeup in 1996, with makeup in 2001 & 2004 (?) at Rod Laver - great concerts, very much the showmen. Ace was pretty spaced out in 2004. Luckily we were on Gene Simmons' side of the stage, only 6 rows back!! Kiss Symphony was disappointing though - possibly due to lack of atmosphere on Level 2 at Etihad Stadium. Hopefully AC/DC will be better.

Ace has ALWAYS been spaced out since day dot!!!.....he wrote some awesome songs though..Shock Me, Talk To Me, Into The Void, New York Groove, Rip It Up, Speedin' Back To My Baby and covered the Stone's 2000 Man even better than the original, that is rare.

                              Peter Criss days (cool)

                              Eric Carr days (very un-cool)
