        Hypocrisy at it's best.

Another Yank that thinks he can police the world and yet can do as he pleases.

Not quite the same when you consider the history of blackface comedies.

Yup. Nicities aside, that crap can be left in bygone decades. Not sure why the went with this material...

So we can't put on a black face and imitate the Jackson 5? What if they were doing some Chinese guy or an Arab, I bet that wouldn't have been called racists? I can't see any one putting down black people. The skit was having some fun about the Jackson 5 who happen to be Afro American.

If they had brown makeup on then absolutely fine but blackface is something that you just don't touch.

Not commenting on wether black face comedys are wrong or right.
My post was to hi-light Connick Jnr taking the high road and having a history of being on the low road.
What is the difference between a white man dressing up as a black man to a black man dressing up as a fat black women for laughs ?

                      Re: Hey Hey its Saturday!

Can't believe the most controversial part of the show was one bit I didn't happen to see! FWIW, I think it was an overreaction on the part of Connick. Whilst I'm no expert when it comes to Afro-American (is that the PC term?) history, I do appreciate the sort of struggles they've gone through throughout history. And I don't think we should make fun of them for the sake of comedy. At the same time, I think society has come so far in so many ways, surely people's ability to find humour should too? To me, it seems kind of typical American bravado, for Connick to speak seemingly on behalf of all Americans.

Perhaps so close to Michael Jackson's death, it could have been avoided, but I didn't think it should have created such a stir.

This sort of explains the past of blackface.

Thanks hujsh... interesting read. Still think it was an over reaction, but I can sort of understand the opposing point of view.
