    Triple J Hottest 100.

    Voting started today.

Been a pretty crappy year for music, but I was able to find 10 songs that I've loved.

    Atlas Sound - Walkabout
The Decemberists - The Rake's Song
The Drums - Let's Go Surfing
Jonathan Boulet - A Community Service Announcement
    Phoenix - Lasso
    The Prodigy - Colours
    Telekinesis - Coast Of Carolina
The Thermals - Now We Can See
The Very Best - Warm Heart Of Africa
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Dull Life

It would be interesting to see other 'Woofers' list of 10 songs(and it doesn't have to be from Triple J's play list).

I know none of those songs(by name).
I heard on Saturday that The Wagons who won the The Age EG awards get no airplay on the national youth broadcaster.
Tells you how piss poor JJJ is.

It has really gone downhill over the last 10 years(every second song is Aussie Hip/hop WTF). But being in Echuca/Kyabram, i don't have much choice when it comes to the radio(it's on all day at work). So it's JJJ or Classic Rock or Dodgy commercial station, JJJ wins hands down.

A friend was telling me there was a review/study of the tunes played on the J's, and it ended up 40% hiphop (or 'skip'hop) No way there's 40% of alternative music acts/bands around in Australia now that are hip-hop, so why the heavy preference?

They'll still play something I like or something new I find interesting at least every third song, and I love Australia Day/Hottest 100........love it

My son is in a death metal band and are hopefully going to get air play soon, he is in the midst of organizing a gig in Melton with a group called Bronson, they both are registered on triple j unearthed.
          For those interested its
Unearthed is triple j’s award-winning initiative for discovering and sharing the best new Australian music. It's kicked off the careers of thousands of musicians.

Not my music i must say but hey i have to support him.

Its a national station. You leave Melbourne, thats about all you get that half decent. You would have thought they cover a broader range of music.

I need to hear the music first before I buy a CD. The only way a new or little known artist gets to be heard is on the radio.

The internet is pretty handy for finding new music, and it doesn't always mean illegal downloads.

Have you ever had a play with last.fm? Best ever!

I find it much more fun to talk to staff at record stores and scout around on the internet than to listen to the radio for new music. JJJ is really just for kids nowadays and even RRR has become predicatble and repetitive. But as a complilation of the year's best songs, IMO the hottest 100 is normally a bit broader than the usual 40% skip hop...although I haven't done a study on that so I could be wrong!

Spotify. The way of the future.

ES: If you want some bands to check out.
                      - Florence & The Machine
                      - White Lies
                      - Ben Howard
                      - Friendly Fires

Howard might be hard to come by - but check him out on Myspace. Brilliant.

It gets boring after a while.

It's amazing that it's gone from zero to 40% in the last 10 years for their Aussie Hip/Hop content(and considering i hate Hip/Hop i'm not happy about it).

But, they do play a lot of music that I like. With the Hottest 100 i find that I like the 51-100 songs a lot better(as none of my choices ever finish very high) than the ones that finish in the top 50. It has turned into an event with a lot of the voters not JJJ listeners(except for that one day), plus having to pick 10 songs allows a lot of dodgy songs to get in(and finish number 1 like last year).
