Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Brit Pop for me, as I loved bands like Supergrass, Coldplay, Blur and Ash throughout the 90's. I am probably a bit young to appreciate New Wave fully but still have a strong love for The Cure and Split Enz.The curse is dead.Comment

Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Probably New Wave for mine... in my younger years, liked a lot of groups/artists that fit into that category. Not so keen on the Britpop....Our club was born in blood and boots, not in AFL focus groups.Comment

Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Ditto, so it's basically 80's vs 90's, i didn't mind a bit of Brit pop here & there, but New Wave for mine.Comment

Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Huh?
Isn't "New Wave" all the stuff from the late '70s/early '80s - Talking Heads, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Romantics feeding into the ska stuff that Madness put out along with bands like the Cure etc etc? You even sometimes here bands like Simple Minds, Human League etc thrown into this bucket sometimes.
And Brit Pop was the post-grunge stuff that came out of London after Nevermind came out...you are looking at Supergrass, Suede, Happy Mondays - all that Hacienda club stuff. I guess the Stone Roses are part of this - Oasis, Blur, Pulp and all that came a bit later but I guess it gets lumped in.
I read ColdPlay getting mentioned...well, there is a 4-letter word beginning with S that sums them up quite well but they aren't part of the Brit Pop acts. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

I agree i shouldn't have lumped them in with the other bands, but i don't agree with the sh*t part(their first two albums anyway). The curse is dead.Comment

Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Then there is Shoegazer. Ride, My Bloody Valentine, etc.
As for New Wave I think Mjp is right there, bornadog's list is maybe more New Romantic?
They all probably had good and bad artists.Comment

Re: Brit Pop V New Wave
Brit Pop for me - not really into it too much, new wave/new romantic I never really liked.
Can't believe Stoner has escaped a mention so far. Even ignoring seminal acts like Blue Cheer or 70s metal like Black Sabbath, you have Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Clutch, Tumbleweed, QOTSA; all awesome acts.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
