    Re: Do you ever wonder?

The capsule for the "Eagle" that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from Apollo 11 (?) to the moon was the width of 3 oxen's bums.

The capsule had to be transported by train from the manufacturing plant so it had to fit.
The American railways sytem is the size it is because that was the size it was in England.
The railways in England followed the roads made by the Romans.
The Romans built their roads to fit 3 oxen side-by-side

Therefore a space capsule ends up being the width of 3 oxen's bums.

Staggering number if even close to true.

I worked for an employment agency for nearly 15 years. The figure they used to give us was much higher. From memory 75% of jobs that future generations would do werent invented at the time a baby was born and we would retrain almost totally every 8 years.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I can't fathom something like that ever happening, but by the same token, I'll bet my grandmother could never fathom something like an iPhone.
I missed it, but personal carers is an interesting one. It is a job so difficult to see automated it almost become a certainly to become automated. With the greying population causing huge burdens on the health system and a lack of career progression in the industry (and the pay sucks too as I understand it) it is a candidate for government funding to get a pilot program started.

Wouldn't surprise me, I completely changed careers two years ago and wouldn't rule out a complete change again. People are not beholden to employers for long periods of time as past generations were; the free market economy has certainly become the norm in the jobs market (as you would know better than I would).

I cmpletely changed careers about 10 years back, I went from an employment officer into (funnilly enough in view of your reply to DOTW above) personal care. Yeah the pay is shit but working with people with a disability is more enjoyable and satisfying than anything I've ever done.

At the moment I am undertaking part time studies to progress in the field I am in and wouldnt count out the possibility that I will change my career to something totally unrealated to what I am doing now. I will still work in disability field but the gammut of things you can do is unlimited. I've found where I want to be, now I just need to find what I want to do.

Good choice. I went from the Military to Finance (lending) to risk planning to Telecommunications two years ago so have had a fair few changes. I know of at least one other poster here who had a major change 3 years ago (for the better) too.

Even five years ago, who would have thought that freelance blogger would have been a career? You-tube star?

It's incredible just how many ways the internet has opened up for making money from niche projects. Long may it be so and let's hope that the major media empires never get the stranglehold on the 'net they desperately want.
