    Vale Randy Savage

Heard this morning that former WWE and WCW wrestler Randy "Macho Man" Savage (real name Randy Poffo), has died in a car accident, aged 58. A former WWE and WCW World Champion, Savage was one of the most popular (and at times hated) performers of his era.

    RIP "Macho Man"

Always followed Pro Wrestling. The Macho man was a great character. I don't think Vince McMahon will shed a tear. R.I.P Randy.

Very sad, he was always one of ny favourites. Wrestlemania IV was an epic event with him winning 4 bouts to take the tittle.

I read in a report he had a heart attack while driving which caused him to veer off the road and hit a tree. His wife was in the car with him but got out with minor injuries.

RIP Macho Man. One of my favourites during the mid to late 90s when WCW was on top of the Monday Night Wars. Was always one of the more likeable 'Bad Guys'.

Slightly off topic, but how do they decide who becomes world champion?
More of an In Bruges guy?

Has to be someone who is "over" - that is, who has become either really popular or hated (depending on the intended character), who has connected with the fans, and in this era, who will increase buy-rates for PPV's, and put bums on seats in the arenas. Helps if they can shift merchandise too. They have to have the goods physically, and be able to carry themselves well on the mike. In Vince McMahon's case, physical appearance is highly valued - Rey Misterio a rare exception to the "Big Guys Rule" rule.

Yep, spot on. Current day, I'd say Sheamus fits that description. If they put the belt on someone and it isn't successful, the guy usually is dropped down the card dramatically.

Will I miss the Macho Man? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YEAH

Reported a few weeks ago that he was in a very bad way and the report suggested that it wouldn't be a surprise if he died this year. Unfortunately that came true.

Looking forward to a possible video tribute on this weeks episode of WWE Raw. Im sure it will be up on YouTube if it does get played, so will post it later.

Bill Simmons on the ESPN website has written a great tribute article to the Macho Man today.

Bill Simmons was already hooked on wrestling when Macho Man pulled him in even deeper.

I can try remember him debuting back around 1985 and getting a massive push right from the start.
His match with Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania III was ground breaking at the time
That theme music, his brilliantly bedazzled gowns and most of all Miss Elizabeth.
                            OOOOOOOHHHH YEAH!!!!!!
Doing my best to use emojis more frequently :o

I read an article yesterday that said 14 of the 51 wrestlers in Wrestemania 7 are now dead.

From another event, I can't recall which, it was 10 of 33. I dont't know if there was any overlap.

Wrestling is a demanding mistress. Scary stuff.
