Have you checked out Knife Party(two of the guys from Pendulum)?

Nah, haven't but I'll give them a run. Saw Pendulum at Summadayze this year (yes, I went for the first time in half a decade and it was pretty good seeing five hours of the best festival music I've heard in ages, with Radioslave, Sasha and Seth Troxler all smashing it out) and I have to give them a bit of cred for rocking it out, even if their pop take on DnB isn't my thing.

I'll let you know how I go with Knife Party.

My preferences lie with Progressive House, Techno, Tech House, House and Breaks. I suppose I like the deeper and more twisted varieties of the genres I've just mentioned, but anything that is original and non-generic electronica is OK by me.

Are there any other Woofers that are into these styles? Would be interested to know whether there are any fellow Dogs supporters into the non-conventional, more eclectic sounds of electronic music.

Had a bit of a listen on the utoob the other day and to be honest I can't get in to that sound. For me, the style reminds me a bit of a watered down version of the twisted breaks guys like Phil K and Nubreed were playing between 2003-2006 in Melbourne's scene (but, that's just me).

I can see its appeal though, and it's very very British (even though it's big amongst frat boys as well).

I don't mind some Dub. A good system/headphones to listen to it are essential, a bit like all good music I suppose. It can be good agreeable party music when you have conflicting tastes fighting it out early on, depending on the vibe.

Jesus it's hard to keep up with the genres, isn't it?

Some of the CD comps I buy will come out with down or mid tempo mixes that contain a bit of dub and post dubstep before going into the more 4/4 sounds towards the end of the mixes. I suppose I like it as a stepping stone to something a bit more marching, though I'm an old fart from the 4/4 generation, and not a hipster!

Re: Any Electronic Music Fans Amongst The Woofers?

I don't get to as many gigs as I'd like to these days, and missing out on some of my favourite Melbourne DJ's is always a bit of a shame. Though, you know, we get older and we have to adapt.

Here's a recent set from one of my all time favourites in Phil K. Back in the old days he used to play progressive and breaks. He's since then moved towards the tech sound and recently has openned up towards a more disco sound.

This set is only a short one, though it's pretty resonable in quality for a live set, and it has some very nice groove to it. Enjoy, if you can!

Re: Any Electronic Music Fans Amongst The Woofers?

This one's from another Melbourne DJ, called Gab Olivier. He was once one one of the bigger underground DJ's playing on the Melbourne scene, though around 2005 he decided to move on to other things rather than playing at the infamous Sunny monthly parties, amongst other things.

He came out of retirement for a show a few weeks ago to support Australia's largest DJing export, Anthony Pappa. He used to play very deep house, and progressive. I've only just downloaded this set, though based on his previous form and his taste in music I'm pretty confident it's going to be worth a few listens. It's about an hour long, let's see how it goes.

                      Enjoy!

I saw Daft Punk in 2007 Eastdog. Awesome show, even though they're not my preferred sound the lighting and sound quality was awesome.

P.S. Skrillex is just one dude. Not my cup of tea, each to their own though hey?

I haven't been to this night club but I know friends that have been. It is the Orange Whip Night Club on Maroondah Highway in Ringwood. Thursday and Saturday are there biggest nights with Lab 22 coming on Thursday. Do you like Industrial music like Nine Inch Nails jeemak. They have electronic elements in there music mixed with rock. Wouldn't say I'm a big fan of NIN but Trent Reznor is a very talented musician.

Sorry for the late reply mate.

I don't really go to clubs anymore unless my friends are putting nights on or there is an international DJ playing that rounds out my list of DJ's I haven't seen yet.

Truthfully, at 32 I'm not going to go clubbing for the sake of it anymore so I have to pick my moments.

I haven't been to the club you mentioned, recently, though I might have stumbled across it in my teenage years on an underage night!

Check out these links, they're the types of tunes I'm in to right now, and some that are a bit old but are classics for their genre:

Eastdog, if you have a good set of headphones, put them on when listening to these tracks.

There's a bit of a mix in those tracks, but they give a reasonably broad view of what I'm in to. Unfortunately they don't get played at the bars I might visit with friends these days, so if I want to hear them I have to make a special effort to go to shows that will play them, with friends that are either playing at the shows or are in to the tracks as well.

I went to Srawberry Fields this past weekend and I dunno.

Like, I guess I had a good time but the constant music sort or pounded me into submission. I was looking forward to seeing Moodyman but he was on the Sunday afternoon and by then I was just done.
