Favourite Late Show moments

As a devotee of The Late Show I thought it would be fun to see what you thought were the best parts of the show.

Characters: hard to go past shit scared or Graham and The Colonel, but I loved Terry and Jeff and how often that got Jane Kenney to crack up.

Micks wrongly booked musical guests: jimmy Hannan singing Woking class man was brilliant and sounded as if it should have always been a cabaret version.

Impersonations: can't go past Imran Kahn, like a tiger... Champagne sketch comedy. Honourable mention to Schwazenegger, "Asta la vista, little fat kid".

Skits: loved the dinner party sketches, especially the feminist Rob Sitch... "We had a win this week, we changed Walkman to walk person".

Music parodies: Tony Martins REM was great and also liked accidentally was released.

Tony & Mick's street interviews in St Kilda were always a good laugh.

Rob Sitch's impersonation of Desmond TuTu and Yassar Arafat were brilliant. Tomy Martin used to do a good Paul Keating also.

Had many a great night at the local footy/cricket club where the place would go quiet for an hour and a bit and we would all watch The Late Show on a Saturday night.

Crosby, Stiils, Nash and Young were supposed to close the show one night but Mick stuffed up again and booked Grasby (Al), Grills (Lucky), Nudge and Plumb (Gwen).

I'm going to get the Best of Box Set out tonight and watch it now.

Loved this show when it was on, was always a talking point at school on a Monday.

Not much to add to what's already been mentioned. Another classic musical stuff up by Mick was booking Joan Kirner instead of Joan Jett, who massacred I love Rock and Roll

The Olden Days and Bargearse skits were good as was Charlie the Wonder Dog with Bud Tingwell. Pissweak World pretty much summed up most Australian Theme Parks.

I'm going to get the Best of Box Set out tonight and watch it now.

Box set? I have the double DVD "The Late Show - Best Bits: Champagne Edition", is this what you mean or is there an actual box set? I still need to get myself a copy of "The Late Show Presents Bargearse and The Olden Days" DVD.

Surely the funniest Aussie TV show ever!

Was lucky enough to be in the Crowd one night (went to the Grand Final that day, Ess v Car) Was the "we won the Olympics" episode and Tony Martin did an impression of The Terminator (Ivan Reitmann, what a genius)

And let's not forget, Ivan Reitman, who I think is a genius.

My favourite part about that interview was when Tom Gleisner said "Despite all the muscles, I can't help but think there's a tall, skinny, nerdy guy with glasses somewhere inside you" or something like that. Even twenty years later the thought is making me chuckle.

That show was a real moment in time for me, these days I can't turn the dial quick enough if I hear Tony Martin or Mick Molloy. I just don't find them funny. Maybe time has made me a cynic.

I thought I was on my own with the Late Show as no one else listed it in the "(Favourite) TV Shows" thread.

When it was on I was alot younger (as we all would have been) and I use to love the opening to Tommy G's news. Unfortunately the DVDs don't capture any of it so it is lost somewhere in the early 1990s i guess?

Worth noting: My wife actually used the phrase "Don't use the good scissors" to one of my kids the other day and I almost lost it.

In a similar vein, loved it when Tony Martin was dressed as Michael Jackson, and Mick Molloy asked him "is there any truth to the rumour that you've had plastic surgery to look more like Tony Martin from the Late Show"

Could not agree more regarding Tony Martin, the show he was on for about two minutes this year with Ed Kavalee was cringeworthy. Mick Malloy still gets me chuckling. Bargearse was my personal favorite.
