If you like Kirk and Khan, check out some of the original film series. Kitch as all hell, but good for a laugh.
Some of the futuristic/dystopian films that I've liked that might find themselves in the sci-fi section are Brazil and A Clockwork Orange.
Blade Runner (PKD's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, on which it is based is an all time favourite of mine), The Running Man, Terminator and IV, V and VI of Star Wars are also extremely good. Gattaca was always a favourite of mine as a younger fella, 12 Monkeys was pretty good, Robocop 1 was a great concept (number two was very camp, and pretty funny), and Alien/s did the trick as well.
But overall, Donnie Darko and 2001: A Space Odyssey are the best of the genre for me. The latter in particular is just so bloody ahead of its time it's not funny, while the former probably was the best film of its decade.
The first Matrix film needs to be mentioned as a classic as well. There wasn't anything like it, executed so well when it came out.

Just went back a bit amazed that two great movies in Blade Runner and Close Encounters have not got a mention yet.
The Rod Sterling series of The Twilight Zone is also a favourite of mine and The Twilight Zone Movie is not to bad.
Do you have me on ignore?
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
