Spin Doctor regenerates into Doctor Who

The new Doctor was announced yesterday. In a bit of a surprise Peter Capaldi will be taking the keys to the TARDIS. Capaldi was best known for his portrayal of Malcolm Tucker, the foul mouthed spin doctor who fixed problems and terrified Cabinet ministers in The Thick Of It. He is also the first actor to be older than the previous actor to potray The Doctor in many years.

Malcolm Tucker is one of my favorite characters of all time so it will be interesting to see how Capaldi goes as The Doctor.

What do other Doctor Who (Or The Thick Of It) fans think?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I admire Capaldi as an actor but I'm not sure how I feel about him as the Doctor. He's certainly not as pretty as the last couple of incumbents (which may not be a bad thing!) He'd better not take that filthy mouth into the Tardis, is all I can say.

Was surprised that, at 55, he is the same age as William Hartnell was when he originally took on the role. Hartnell was such a crusty old man, I doubt Peter Capaldi will play it that way!

The only other thing I've seen in was a series called Psychos about a asylum. He was one of the crazies but he was the most coherent and together in the place. He's good, I'mconfident he'll 'get' The Doctor.

Haven't seen Psychos but I've seen him in The Hour, Torchwood and a bit of The Thick of It. Should be interesting, anyway! I'm looking forward to it now i'm getting used to the idea. My daughter's not impressed though.

Funny that he's the first actor for a while to be older than the previous Doctor. They could hardly have gone much younger than Matt Smith, they'd be casting from high schools.

My son really likes The Thick Of It so he is looking forward to seeing PC as The Doctor. My daughter on the other hand isn't such a fan of the show so she will take some winning over. Maybe it's a girl thing.

The Thick Of It is the funniest show to have been on TV in the last 5 years I reckon.

I would love to see Idris Elba have a crack at it. He was extraordinary in Luther. Maybe next regeneration!

Apparently he is going to be the next Bond?! If it is the case he has gone from Baltimore gangster, to rogue UK detective to MI 5 agent!

                An amazing actor either way.
More of an In Bruges guy?

If he's going to be James Bond, I doubt we'll be seeing him in Dr Who any time soon.

Yep. So many twists and turns. No show does surprises like Luther. I really thought Justin would walk away like Luther did.
